Ableton Forum

Hey guys whats up, i joined this forum specifically to ask this question, and forgive me if this isnt in the right forum.

But uh yeah I'm using Ableton Live Lite 6 and when I try to open the Roland SH-201 VST plug in ableton shuts down... is it not supported?? Now I guess I dont know too much ( this is why i joined this forum) but how can i record what i am playing from the synth without using the VST plugin?

Plug the audio outs of the synth into the audio ins on your soundcard in your computer. Provided you have a decent soundcard of course.

nuts. i kinda wanna have full control of my synth using Ableton live with the Roland plug-in.

you can, I have that shitty keyboard and you have to have 5 cords attached to get the best of ableton and the VST out of it. 2 audio's, 2 midi's and a usb.

The thing I hate about the VST is the inability to type in settings. I have to twist the knob or mouse back and forth until it goes to the closest number. which isn't terrible until you try to set the bpm of the arp

Why is it that Live cannot read the script for the Roland VST??

laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame know one uses this? such a great analog synth...........

I sold mine because it was in fact NOT a great synth.

again I was hyped about a synth with integrated software but the software sucks.

what is that you wanted to know about it? It worked fine with live for me but it's just not a good sounding keyboard. Sylenth eats it alive!

I used it with a mac. What are you using?

The thing worked fine. I just found it extremely limited.

Maybe post a pic of the message you are getting.

which version of live are using? try to give as many details as possible.

Mac PPC G4 and I'm using live lite 7 since I cannot afford the full program (too broke lost my job as Vice president)

soo.... when i put the roland.vst in the vst folders like my other vsts and then open live lite 7 i get this


then i click and i get this


nuts. Live is unusable if that vst is in the folder.... live still gets the midi signal and i still use it as a controller and everything its just the editor wont work

you're using a mac. so try downloading the AU plug in version.

you also need to have 5 cables. yes I said 5

2 for audio going into your soundcard or interface(that is if you want the sh's audio to go through ableton).
2 for midi.
1 usb cord.
you have to install the editor and the librarian.
you must make sure the sh-201 is "on" before cranking up ableton.

try having azureus off too or take it off your computer before it gives you aids.

from the looks of your first picture though it looks like ableton does not like that vst..so try the audio unit(AU)

if that doesn't work, take the vst/au out of the folder and start live. after live is on put it back in the folder.
go to your live preferences and re-scan your vst/au folder. it might work after that.

Thats a good idea about the AU I had'nt thought of it I will try that when I get home, and yeah I'm using 5 cables. Oh and I usually turn Azereus off, it was on I just opened live to take screenshots, I still get the same problem when its not running. I shouldnt use it anyways, but I probably shouldnt smoke either thanks buddy!

hmmm i didnt find the AU just the VSTi.......
