Hi
I have Ableton insatlled on my lappy all running perfectly - I have now installed it on a new pc and everything is working fine apart from i cant seem to get any levels on the line in from an external microphone. The record arms are enabled and look as they should but i am getting no level at all going in. Can anyone help ?
Ps, the mike is fine as it works perfectly through the laptop in Ableton

What sort of mic are you using? Dynamic? Condenser? What sound card are you using?

Did you set the mic or preamp in/out up in the Options menu?

Hi
I am using a condenser mike and i have got a Creative Soundblaster Xtreme Audio soundcard - however, i was on the phone to a technical support centre last night and they think the sound card is faulty so i am going to replace it and see if anything changes - thanks for your responses everyone

If you're using a condenser mic it will require phantom power, which your Creative sound card does not provide, from what I can tell about it. It's quite possible that the sound card and the mic are both fine... but without 48V phantom power the mic will not work. An external preamp that could supply phantom power would work.

OK STOP! DO NOT REPLACE SOUND CARD.
a condenser mic requires 48v of phantom power (read the post above mine).
you need a preamp!!!!!!!!!!!!!
