Every Tension-preset I load has its excitator set to Plectrum.

The first one I tried after reading this, Tension\Synth Strings\Strings-Bright Cello, has its exitator set to "Bow" in 8b18.

I just realise that any Instrument I load is set to default. Maybe I just messed something up in my library...?

in one of the earlier Betas, somewhere around beta 15/16 there was a foul-up with the included content that reset all the basic presets (non-racked) to their default setting. This has been resolved since but if you had the earlier beta you will still see the problem.
I think the fix was to uninstall the relevant packs from your preferences and then let the newer version of live find them again.

Yes, re-installing the Tension pack should fix this.
