Man, is this thing loaded! Coming out this summer. I normally don't like genre specific products but this looks pretty good, feature-wise.

It looks like a 2009 version of the Ensoniq ASR-X

How about a 3.5 inch full color screen (not a green Akai-job), rechargable battery, powerful sequencer and sure, on-board effects are nice.

The OS can't be as bad as Akai's factory OS. Isn't it kind of pathetic that a couple of talanted hackers created a better OS for the MPC 1000, 2500?

What is a "preloaded preset?" Isn't that redundant?

Basically, between this and Maschine, Akai is all but dead.

Also, I can do without all the ghetto-marketing of this "thang" but really, it looks basically like a more modernized ASR-X Pro, whcih isn't a bad thing.

Except Akai has the position of being the premiere Beat Machine. Tons of guitars and basses are better than Fender but Fender is still king (or kang lol), plenty of DAWs are better than ProTools but it is still the industry standard. Akai will still be around after this thang.

Not being an Akai fanboy, just stating the principles of positioning and being first to market.

screen - nice
battery - nice, can it be replaced? how long do they hold a charge?
powerful sequencer? how so?
on board effects - to be expected.
The OS can't be as bad as Akai's factory OS.
why can't it be? the Beat Kangz have made asses of themselves at every step of the way.
Isn't it kind of pathetic that a couple of talanted hackers created a better OS for the MPC 1000, 2500?
the hate is strong with this one. if it's pathetic, why call them talented?
What is a "preloaded preset?" Isn't that redundant?
no, you can buy presets online for most pieces of gear.
Basically, between this and Maschine, Akai is all but dead.
overstatement of the year, so far. as a Live user with zero NI software on my machine why would I consider Maschine over an APC?

seriously, not trying to be a hater or sarcastic I really don't see what's special about this thing. it's better to like gear than not, this thing is a classic lol-fest.

putting down the ghetto for being ghetto is stupid.
given the choice I'm sure these people would have prefered to come from where ever you came from.
if the beatkangz were white, educated, and from a better part of town would you still look down on
them?

I think you're misreading thelike5, he's offended that any socio-economics come into play with their marketing.

it's a sure bet there are educated nerds that have never stepped outside the suburbs working on this thing. there are few inner city vocational schools that offer embedded systems architecture classes.

"not from the PJs but I still got something to say"

just felt like writing that line, dunno if it's relevant.

.
I'm sure that's the case but he needs to learn that you can't have one without the other.

HA HA HA

I came from Cleveland. There's a chance these guys may have came from a rougher hood but more than likely probably not.

Dude, it's 2009; just because someone's black doesn't make them hood. You are reading into this way too much.

I think their marketing is full of racism and stereotyping

I know I'm guilty of caring too much about how a piece of gear looks when I should be concerned about how it sounds... but this thing is really fucking stupid looking.

Like, really... really fucking stupid looking.
