are there any wami box users in this forum?

first i have to say there is a new driver for the wami box:
EWDM v 3.40 and also for W2k and XP (only with a hotfix from microsoft).
seems to be quite fast....
but i am not able to enable the second output (live sends to the bus 3/4, but there is no sound...)
i now have my wami box for a few days, but the latency is not as low as i expected (4096 samples in W98SE, and 2048 samples in W2k). what i really dislike is the high cpu load (30-35% (taskmanager w2k) doing nothing). thats funny, i can not play back some arangements and sessions which i made with the internal soundcard ESS Maestro on my Dell 3700 (piii 450, 256MB)
so my question to wami users is: have you some tricks to squeeze some less milliseconds latency out of the wami box? what laptop do you use? what drivers?

Sorrry to be the bearer of bad news, but I struggled with the Wamibox for over a year, tried it with every OS from 98 to XP and sadly came to the conclusion that it was plain and simply a piece of garbage. Their drivers are inefficient and genreally badly written, and their support is hap hazard at best. If it is a recent purchase I would highly suggest returning it and getting an MAudio Quattro, Emagic EMI 2/6, or sheel out a bit more and get a digiface.

yea.. the first laptop interface i had was a wami box also.. i suggest selling it on ebay.. and getting your money back.. it must be the worst sound card produced for a laptop... i say go with a tascam 224 or 448 .. from what i hear, they have very low latency on both windows and mac os9/x

I too was foolish enough to invest in a WAMI Box. Very disappointing. I still have mine, as I didn't want to waste any more money trying to force my Sony VAIO 700MHz P3 notebook into being musically useful. Latency up the wazoo, flaky driver software, erratic functionality at best.

I used to check the EGO Sys website on a regular basis looking for driver updates, and actually went to the trouble of installing a couple of them, only to end up with a new set of problems each time.

Now that I know there's yet another new driver, I may drag mine out of the closet and try once more. I'm a glutton for punishment.

My expectations are low, but it would be nice to have a portable system that works.

have always thought im the only one on this planet who
went trought that horrible experience of using a wami box...
for over a year i tried pretty much all options/progrms/drivers/...
in all possible combinations..
incredible how much nerves i spend on that piece of garbage...

we should join toghether and form a wami box self help group...
or probably get our money + more back from egosys...
(imagine all that worthless hassle-time invested by people around the world with
that piece of crap...)

i now use a rme hammerfall multiface...

more than happy with it...

ive been using a wamibox for about a year and have had pretty good results with it. using a toshiba satellite p3 600 with winME (cos the new xp drivers arent there yet). it's taken some tweaking, but im pleased with the results ive had.

i made pretty bad experiences with the wami box on windows 98se. it didn't work at all with my system, so i sold it after a couple of weeks. i would rather recommend an usb solution.

I do not have a Wami Box, but i just got the WaMi Rack 192X (made by the new and improved ESI!) and so far it has been okay. The latency does not get as low as I had hoped, and sometimes I get a random blue screen in WinXP.

I am still evaluating it, but my first impressions are that it is only so-so for sound quality and features. I will probably sell it for an RME or Echo Audio sound card.

(Oh yeah, and the manual is rather unintelligible engrish!! )
