Hi, I am trying to record guitar into ableton live 6 whilst using the effects supplied with the m audio fast track USB (dsound gtplayer) & using ableton as a re wire slave but when i try to click the record button in the ableton track it is greyed out. please can anyone advise how i can record using the effects or if it is possible to do this? If it isnt are ther any effects programmes that I can d/l that would work with ableton?

When using the FT USB without the effects I can record fine apart from that the guitar only comes through one speaker? I have tried changing the settings in preferences in ableton live 6 but this makes no difference? Ho w can I resolve this?

Hi Meatsweeper,

audio recording is not possible when you´re running Live as a ReWire slave. I´d recommend to either use Live´s integrated effect devices to start with or look out for plug-ins in VST format.
If you´re using Live standalone, make sure you´v specified a mono input port as your guitar outputs a mono signal. In the track´s I-O section, (in the menu right under 'EXT in'), choose '1' instead of '1/2'.

I have the m-audio FireWire Solo (I assume quite similar to your interface). The GTPlayer was included with the audio interface. It exists as a standalone application (which I never used) and as a VST plugin. I can record in a Live track and use the plugin to create FX (live, when recording or afterwards). This is really flexible. Having multiple instances of the plugin will require more CPU.

But I switched to a POD X3 Live and a real Marshall Amp (with line-out for recording), so I hardly ever use the GTPlayer effects. The POD also allows using all it's effects inside a VST plugin.
