Tranpose Automation on the fly?

H there, just worked out that I can draw automation changes for a clip's transpose value, but wondered if there as a way to record this on the fly, i.e automate and record the transpose setting live in arrangement view? Also, is there a way to have more control over envelope editing with the pencil tool, so that the key changes can be more or less of a curve? many thanks Hayz ;)

Cany anyone help with this? Not a problem if not, as using the pencil tool is mroe acccurate anyway and have worked out that taking the snap to option of gives smoother control! :)

yes, you can record it in arrangement view. just assign a controller to the transpose of the instrument

as far as smoothness, yes - get rid of the grid. you can get even smoother from there if you delete every other breakpoint (creating angled lines instead of steps.)

you'll get more of the angled lines if you record it instead of using the pen tool

there is also an options.txt entry called "midi thinning" or something like that - which will also get you more detailed envelopes = smoother (more breakpoints)

What's the options.txt entry? How is that used? Thanks.

I added this (not sure about the second one though), and the curves are now quite precise !

-MidiEventThinning=0
-ThinningAggressiveness=0

Thanks for your advice Longjohn, so why won't it record the transpose changes when using a mouse on the control while recording, as other things like effects do?

ok that's what I thought, but it doesn't work and I think it is because I'm trying to transpose a clip within an audio track on the clip view "transpose " option. I dont arm the track but arm global record and then move the transpose dial while record is ON. The auomation is not recorded. I don;t have a problem with any other automation such as FX/EQ as this works fine...I can however use the pencil tool to draw the change in transposition, but really want to automate it...

I understand you now. I was using the transpose parameter on a MIDI instrument.

sorry for the confusion and for not reading your question more closely

that's ok longjohns, thanks for being helpful! So does this mean it is not possible after a;ll and pencil tool must be used?

can you assing a knob to the transpose and then record the transpose changes your making into another audio channel? Then use that new audio sample in place of the original.

just an idea.
