Hi my name is Gustavo and I'm from Argentina.
Last month I have downloaded the latest evaluation version on Ableton
live, 7.0.14, and I'm considering buying it. I really like the creative process of Live.
But I've had a problem with Live and a voxengo plugin I use a lot: "Curve Eq"; when
I use an effect chain with this plug It works with some natural latency, and
that's ok becase this plug work this way, but when I deactivate it, the effect is
gone but the latency is still there!
In other DAWs I use like Reaper It doesnt happen, you deactivate Curve Eq
and the effect is gone and the latency is gone ( so you can record live
instruments on that track for example, then in the mix you activate it again)
I use this voxengo plug to simulate some amps and cabs response and is very important
to my work. But well this is the only issue I have had.
Thanks in advance!

Re: voxengo Curve Eq - Latency Bug?
In Ableton Live 8.0.1 (demo version) this also happens
And from the voxengo forum:
... you deactivate Curve Eq and the effect is gone and the latency is gone ( so you can record live instruments on that track for example, then in the mix you activate it again )
This is an Ableton BUG?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, this is related to Ableton and how it handles latency. I suggest you to contact Ableton support staff for resolution.

Re: voxengo Curve Eq - Latency Bug?
When you turn off the plugin it remains in the signal chain and the host, Live, will still respect it's latency value. So that's why you keep the latency. Some plugins have an on/off option with which the latency is reset, others don't.
If you delete the plugin from the channel the latency should be back to normal.

Thanks for your reponse but, I dont understand why Ableton Live must respect the latency value of a deactivated plugin, in other DAWs like reaper this doesnt happen, if you deactivate the plug is latency goes off.

Re: voxengo Curve Eq - Latency Bug?
When Live doesn't keep the latency of an switched off plugin in account, it would result in a audible click every time you activate or deactivate the plugin because the signal chain must be recalculated with the new latencies.

Re: voxengo Curve Eq - Latency Bug?
Thanks from your response Frank, I understand now. This is how Live handles latency so you can switch off the plugin in a live mix without audio problems and glitches. The others DAW's I was talking about are not designed for live performances, thats the difference.
Thanks again! Live 8 really Rules!
