Hi Vektar,

May I ask you what you mean by "Keep opening the activation dialog"?
Do you mean that that dialog comes back every time you start Live?

Cheers,

Carl

Hi again,

I just installed 8.0.1 on my personal laptop and successfully
authorized Live using an .auz file. Dragging it on the dialog
seems to work.

Are you sure the hardware code in the .auz file's name is
correct? You can find out your hardware code by going to the
preferences, clicking the "User account/Licenses" tag and
clicking the "Display off-line authorization instructions"
button. What was the exact error message (if any) that made
you say that dropping it didn't work?

Hi vektar,

Could you check the file's properties (right-click on the file and
select "Properties" at the bottom of the context menu) and verify that
the extension is really ".auz", and not something like ".auz.txt"? It
could happen that the browser somehow adds the extension, and it would
explain why it opens in notepad.

Really strange. Actually, Windows Explorer (the file manager)
has an option to hide known file extensions. I forgot that
even the properties page does not show the extension if this
option is activated. Would you mind checking it, just to make
sure?

In any Windows Explorer window, go to "Tools" and select
"Folder options". Click on the "View" tab, browse
down the list of "Advanced settings" until you find the
option called "Hide extensions for known file types".
Make sure this option is unchecked.

Let me know.
