I just broke the head on my firewire 800 cable, so as soon as i get a new cable I'll test and post

I thought about the 2.3ghz, but decided I'd get a much better performance hit by spending the extra money on an SSD, so will dual drive it, using a replacement bay for the optical drive slot. SSD for OS and programs, and the normal HD for other files.

@commuter, you should expect at least as good a performance as last years MBP 15/17, if not better due to the other improvements.

@h4nc0 I don't understand your point? What does a desktop i7 performance have to do with it? And how is 27% on your laptop relevant to you being unimpressed with 20% from the MBP?

Thats quite a nice little speed boost. I am a little jealous (having bought an MBP in fall of last year), but my 2010 macbook pro still performs as good as i need it to. There have been only a couple instances in huge projects where i actually have to bounce some tracks to audio.

I was going to do the test, but I have an Input Buffer Size, which I cannot modify, and an Output Buffer Size, which I can modify.

What setting should I use on the Output Buffer Size?

I'm using the onboard audio of my motherboard, heh.

mm. This is what confuses me. My Dell 1458 notebook (Q740 @ 1.73ghz) does around 27%. Shouldn't this particular MBP be faster than Dell 1458?

This is a last year DUAL core macbook pro an your DELL is a QUADCORE, so it's completely normal
they both have last year I7 CPU..
With the new macbook pro, it's another story (sandy bridge/new I5/I5 CPU)

LOL, I realized that they were dual-core and deleted the post but then you replied, I guess.

standard test runs at 40% stable.
with 24 tracks it dropouts until the turbo kicks in, when it then sits stable at 80% with no dropouts

thats an dualcore i5 with 2.53ghz clocked at turbo with 4gb of ram notebook.
hp pavilion dv6-3167eo, to be exact.


edit: this was with a bunch of things running in the background with an unoptimized computer.
would be fun to see how much more i could squeeze out of it if needed.

so, for the same price, yes you get a little CPU boost

With 8 playback tracks, my CPU meter is more than 250% and the program is almost crashed...
Wow it seems I need to change my computer soon.
I'd like to buy an iMac i7, but I'm not sure of its performances. Indeed, rave seemed to have 10% CPU Meter with his iMac (page 23), but I can't believe it. I would like to have some more realistics values. Anyone else did the test with a iMac I7 ?
