Live 8.0.1 Crashes on Duplicate Time, Copy Time, Insert Sile

I decided to re-edit this post since I've stumbled upon way too many other things that crash Live 8.0.1 and I was getting far too angry trying to work on this project. So here they are, guaranteed to crash Live, every time:
Duplicate time, copy time, insert silence, select all, copy a selection of audio spanning multiple tracks and clips, delete time, adjusting between complex pro warping mode and others - the list just goes on...
So to sum it all up - pretty much every essential task in creating a song is not doable in Live 8.0.1. And the worst part about all of this? We can't take the set back to Live 7 where the set began and worked fine. How did this possibly get the go ahead for an official release?! This is worse than a beta by all standards. Pretty shocked and disappointed to say the least.
Has anyone had any luck fixing any of this? I know it's not a cpu issue because this is all being done on an 8 core Mac Pro with 16GB of RAM. Please post suggestions if anyone has any...

Man I envy you. Granted there are a ton of tracks, effects, etc in this set, it worked without any hesitation at all in Live 7. I even opened other sets and tried duplicating time etc there and the exact same thing happened. Perhaps it's a mac version issue? I'd kill to be able to take this project back to Live 7.

So 100 crashes later at the end of the weekend and these problems still persist in every project. I miss the duplicate time function most of all

Hi Djholla, please specify your config. Are you using any 3rd party plug-ins in these sets?

Hi DJHolla,
sorry to hear about your trouble. Please contact
[email protected] with your log.txt (user/library/preferences/ableton/live 8.0.1.) and your latest crash-logs (user/library/logs/crash-reporter/live XX XX XX crash) included.
Do the problematic tracks contain any 3rd party plug?
Meanwhile, please try trashing your preferences.cfg file (also in the preferences folder above) and the content of your cache folder (users/library/caches/ableton/index). Does the problem persist?
Best,
Jörg

I have been emailing support numerous crash logs since Friday night in hopes that it gives you the information you need to fix these crashes. I have no 3rd party plugins, but I do have a large number of tracks and effects loaded. Granted this all worked in all the 7.x.x releases no problem. I use many previous projects as starting sets and carry them over with many tracks to sample and choose from.
I tried deleting the preferences.cfg file first thing when these crashes persisted on Fri night and I was able to do a couple insert silence instances after but the duplicate time crash and copy certain clips crashes continued. I will try clearing the cache now and report back.
@ cids - yes, above in the first post I stated it's an 8 core Mac Pro with 16GB of RAM, but I did forget to specify OS X 10.5.6, no 3rd party plugs.

Yes, the crashes all still persist with duplicating time, etc... after deleting the preferences.cfg and clearing the cache folder contents.

I can successfully duplicate and delete time without crashing.
I CANNOT duplicate/copy any clip whether midi/audio.
OSX 10.5.6

Hmm that is interesting. I can actually duplicate most audio and midi clips without crashing but not time. I am really perplexed by the vast array of things people can and can't do from computer to computer on Live 8.0.1 - and yet some (although very few) people have not had even one issue. I guess we just keep sending these logs and crash reports to Ableton in hopes that they help.

i know this sounds weird, but did anyone else with these problems also uninstall the live8 lessons?

No, I did not uninstall the lessons. I do know that it is certain clips though that Live is struggling with for some reason. That's the root source here with all these issues.
Live 8.0.1 can't handle clips that previous versions could. Even though 7 and 6 both handled these same clips without issue, 8.0.1 is unable to copy them and that is why it crashes on duplicate time.
I have narrowed down a couple snares, etc that trigger a crash in Live when attempting to copy, but in a set of 80+ tracks I'm not going to go through bar by bar trying to prevent something that should work and has for 2+ years. But I would have to say with high certainty that individual clips are causing the crashes and the duplicate time problem.

I'm starting to get beyond ##$%!*^ frustrated. I can't even drag 8 bars of an audio clip without crashing. Ableton, how are we supposed to make music without being able to move clips around?! I've sent in 20 crash reports, 10 log files, and haven't heard anything back since the initial request asking for the log last Friday.
Ableton - this is how we make our living. Fix this now please. This is serious problem - we have deadlines and taking the sets back to 7 obviously isn't possible.

And now of course the bug where the mouse won't release audio clips after copying them is back - the highlighted yellow ghost clips just hang on the mouse cursor wherever it is moved. I have to force quit Live to gain mouse control back. I'm losing my mind with this software. A week ago there was nothing more pleasurable than banging out a set in Live 7. Now I'd rather walk on hot coals for an hour than have to spend 10 minutes in Live 8. I'm kicking myself for ever saving these sets in 8.
