Disappointed...

When I got the Ableton 8 Beta, I avoided using the instruments I knew I could not afford yet with the upgrade (Collision, Operator, etc.) so that I could use all the tracks I produced in 8. Little did I know that Corpus, one of my favorite effects, was an add-on effect! Since when have their been add-on effects? I wish this had been specified earlier when Ableton 8 was announced. Corpus is not even advertised as coming with Collision on the Ableton page, as it now says it does in the manual. I'm so happy with 8, but this exclusion is a major disappointment. Live's business model is one of the things I champion to others when I talk about it. I hope that add-on effects aren't the new norm.

I think it's pretty clear http://www.ableton.com/collision And on the hopepage video at about 8 minutes

Yeah. Clearly specified IMO.

hmmmm, you can always wait for live 9 when they drop the price of collision down.

well yeah... it's clear NOW... I'm just talking about the initial announcement and for the beta users. I hope we don't have to start paying for effects.

Also, when you go to buy Collision-

No mention whatsoever! How do I know which Collision page to go to? That's the one I'd looked at before, not the one you sent.

The video has not changed since the initial announcement.
And you don't have to pay for fx (the new limiter and so on). But Corpus gets its juice from the Collision instrument, it's sort of a goodie you get for buying collision.

As for the link you've posted, you should've noticed that on the second line there's a link to the page describing the product (corpus included).

Why does corpus say it is "completely independent of collision" on the page you linked to if it gets it's "juice" from collision? I just don't think that makes any sense. If it says you're buying collision, and it says corpus is completely independent of collision, shouldn't it say somewhere that you're also buying corpus? I've never had to purchase an effect form Ableton before, if there's a policy change it would be nice to know about it. It's very disappointing, and really not clear enough for my $200 Live upgrade. I can get VST loopers and EQ for free.

Corpus can be used as an effect without collision. However, both corpus and collision are 3rd party plugins made by AAS (as the Suite instruments), and therefore, they are not giving it for free probably due to licensing issues with AAS.

I agree though that while in the video it's clear, that in some of the other media literature, it is more vague and I also understand your disappointment. Ableton are asking too much for this upgrade IMHO, as much as it's innovative and cool.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks leeds, that makes sense. (And yeah, who has time to watch all the videos when they're spending the precious few minutes making music?)
