Sending program changes messages to Nord? How?

Hi,

I would like to send my Nord Lead program changes from Live? Is this possible?

i.e - when switching from one scene to another I would like to change the program playing on my Nord from A12 to B32... how do I do this?

I'm guessing CC# or a Bomes-like workaround is neccessay - but maybe there is a way to transmit a program change CC message directly from MIDI clip in Live?

Any help would be appreciated...

Look in the clip inspector - there are fields for Program Change. Only works when you trigger / play the clip in Session view.

In the envelope section of the clip view i can see that I can assign MIDI control data - but I see no option that corresponds to Program Change data.

I'm guessing that each synth has it's own dedicated MIDI CC channel that it recieves Program Change data on?

Is there usually different channels for changing presets as opposed to banks?

it's not in the envelope section, it's in the notes section (bank, sub-bank, program). Page 118 in the manual.
The Nord should receive program changes on the same channels that it receives other midi data. You can set up seperate channels for each of the nord's 4 parts.

Hi lonemale.

Check the lower left hand side of your clip view. Program and Bank drop downs are located there.

The synth won't receive Program change data via a MIDI CC. It will receive program change data via whatever MIDI channel number you've specified in the MIDI prefs, heh.

Check up on Dummy Clips as well. You can create a new MIDI track, then add a bunch of dummy clips - each of which can send a different program/bank change. You can do this with your actual (original) MIDI clip, but the dummies allow you to change patches on the fly or as part of a scene change, etc. Fun stuff!

NORD program changing. This is what I have found to work on the NORD Stage 3

Your midi note in Ableton needs to be C1 note or higher.

The midi must be routed to the correct channel that the NORD is operating on.

MIDI on the NORD must be receiving messages.

The channel must be on Auto or Off.

SONG MODE - BANK 2

Bank 2, Sub 1, Pgm 8 takes you to Song Mode, Song 2, Patch 3 (which is patch 8 overall)

I can confidently say that Sub is the range of patches in groups.
Sub 1 = 1.00 through 1:25
Sub 2 = 1:26 through 1:50
Sun 3 = 2:01 through 2:25

And etcetra.

There are NO GAPS in the range explanation I just wrote down above.

I can confidently say that Pgm is the number patch from the beginning of the list in whatever mode you are in.

DEFAULT MODE - BANK 1

In default mode (no mode is selected) Sub is defined differently:

Sub 1 = Groups A through E
Sub 2 = Groups F through J
Sub 3 = Groups K through O
Sub 4 = Groups P through T

In default mode, the highest patch selection would be Bank 1, Sub 4, Pgm 26 (this is patch P:55 Analog Pads)

The banks seem to have NO EFFECT beyond 1 & 2.
