what plugin buffer size

Hi,
Just wanted some input on what size the plugin buffer should be on Live 8. I have it on the as audio buffer setting and I have the duo core option selected.
The reason being that when I changed my external sound card to a Fast Track Ultra I started to get clicks and pops when playing back and more annoyingly when I was recording. I have tried all sorts (on another forum) and just wondered whether I have the correct buffer size.
The computer I am using is a XP SP2 1.65 gig duo core and now with Live 8
Any thoughts on the buffer size settings and any other things to try to get rid of the pops and clicks. I have got the latest FTU drivers
