I keep thinking that my soundcard upgrade could be a mixer crossgrade as well...I'm thinking of the Mackie D2 or D4 pro series, Ecler Evo 5, any others? Other people have experience with these things? Is it great to have everything in one box, or is it rigid and inflexible?

No, but it is on my things to buy list. It does look plasticy but I've read a bunch of positive reviews by users. Also I think it has the most audio/MIDI/hybrid options of all the DJ style mixers and I've heard the effects are also great.

said it before, i'll say it again... Zero 4 is a great mixer/interface/controller!!! unless you are using Vista 64.

mackie have just released 2 new mixer/soundcards and one is in a dj stylee with a x-fader etc - cant remember the model numbers off hand, but if you look on the sound on sound website there's a good review.

If you have the budget though - go for allen and heath!

the allen and heath is too big and too expensive. ecler too really.

but I really would like to hear from anyone who actually has experience using these things in a real hybrid manner. not just as a controller/soundcard combo, but integrating analog gear, turntables, mics, midi controller, and soundcard. thats what I'm after. and I want portability and quality. I can spend around 1000$. I am wondering if I should just get an ultralight and keep my Xone 92- or should I get the 2 channel mackie? or shit, the 4 channel mackie is not that much more and not that much bigger either!

does anybody actually use these things to their potential?

my current idea was to swap the Xone 92 for a 2 channel analog DJ mixer with an ultralight. but then I saw the 2 channel mackie that integrates the soundcard. and then I saw the 4 channel mackie and I priced it and its less than 200$ difference. and yet, portability...fuck.

This doesn't really answer your question with your budget, but it's this exact scenario that points me to the lemur. All controllers fall short in the area of controlling Live (and Traktor for my needs). The Xone 3/4D seems like it has the most potential but it's too damn big and heavy and more expensive than the lemur. With a lemur you can design a layout that is exactly what you need. It doesn't have an audio interface but I see that as a minor issue in comparison to having the kind of control access you want.

zero4 build quality is great imo. its a bit finer and more fragile, but its cause its precise... and the faders are butter. some of the best crossfader curves ever.

go for the mackie if you like it... dunno about the soundquality... should be *reasonable*... but i LOVE the way the zero4 sounds.

I own the D4 and can say that it is the best mixer I have owned, which includes 2 Ranes. Worth every penny even without the sound card, I think its quality is way better than the standard Mackie sound mixers. If I had one gripe, it would be its height as it sits a bit higher than the 1200s, but sound and build quality is second to none.

could you please describe how you use it? I am already sold on the quality and aware of the strange fact that it is a bit higher than a T1200.

well, maybe so , but at this point its just not an option! I agree about the Xone, cool idea but its too big (as is my Xone 92 and the mackie D series really)
