Was Jeff Mills really doing something in those videos in the exhibitionist ?
I see him yes mixing , but he touchs a lot the eqs and the volume faders but like just touching them and not really miving them, sometimes.
Of course he mies good , but was he doing more show than, really doing stuff?

That's his normal "hectic" behavior. Sometimes he turns the knobs only a tiny little bit and one can argue if that is noticeable.... doesn't really matter I think.

He's the Wizzard. Still. I'll never forget the first time I saw him DJing at Tresor 1993. Perfect mixes every 20 seconds. He threw the records away until the floor was filled up with vinyl. Ace.

I hear everything, and personally that's part of the immersion... It takes me deeper into the depths of the grooves.
'Oh sloppy beatmatch, but what a perfect save, let's dance!' = me on the dancefloor

So bummed. Every time I saw Jeff Mills back in the day he was awful, trainwrecks and bad mixes galore, while all my friends would have these awesome stories of insane sets he had done

+1 his extraordinary wizardry got me into DJ-ing in the first place, he was the first dj i saw that treated turntables and a mixer like a piano, except hip hop dudes... and i think technically he is still up to today the no.1
Not to forget his labels & productions, "the bells" will still sound new and fresh in 20 years.

Yeah those fucked up sets existed, but i love him for that... He always pushed himself way over the limit.... Sometimes it failed, but he remains the one with the most unforgetable 200% awsome chin dropping on the floor sets... Rather then those clean and dull everytime "nice" and predictable stuff.

That is the kind of mixing that puts me right away to sleep if it happens all the time throughout a set... Where is the action?

Saw Jeff Mills at one of "the docks" raves, big tin sheb, the thing was pulsating as i walked towards it, one of those things i'll never forget.
Jeff Mills live on his 909
Pretty much cemented Techno as my genre forever

he sure is twitchy.. sometimes a wee twitch on the eq can help 'locate' the tune for you against whatever else is playing, but in the vid he's often twitching for twitching's sake - not totally necessary but useful for timing and getting into a groove. no different to having a bit of a dance tbh.
i liked the tunes a lot but i'm not sure i was on board with all the mixing in that video.. and a whole night of turntablism would just get right on my teats
