Hey lads just purchased guru,anybody else on here running it ? Whats the best way to set it up with ableton ?

Depends if you need separate input to each of gurus engines and also output each of gurus engines to 8 separate tracks in Live.

How are you hoping to use it?

Not sure yet man i havent really had time today,i was only messing around with it for about 15 minutes.

The thing I noticed about Guru was that pretty much all of its functions can be replicated in Live on way or another. Hence, I didn't buy it. It is a very good set of tools in its own right though!

yes that, AND you can make these patterns real easy in Guru. that sequencer is a key thing and the one that Live lacks.
i use Guru for quite some time. i make all my beats in it. check MSPC for an example(s).
with GURU 1.6 you can have 16 separate outputs. it has an amazing shuffle function. great library. really cool randomization. try to make a real simple beat and add some random notes with the slider on the upper section. OR. even better, right click on a pattern and then use "Clone to all (Random 1, 2, 3)". Amazing!
the way i use it in Live is that i make patterns in Guru, then drag dose to midi tracks. rout midi tracks to separate midi engines, and samples from Guru to separate outputs/audio tracks in Live. sounds a bit complicated, but it's really not. i also suggest to people who use Guru on a regular basses to make and save a Live template with all the routing done.

If it was mine I was really onlt demonstratin' how to control all 8 engines with different samples but only using one instance of Guru. How yo route out the sound is a whole other keddlofish.

Are there any advantages to rewiring with Live, vs. using as plugin in Live?

If I only ever needed 1-3 engines in Guru would it be easier (or work just as well) to have two or three instances of Guru, each mapped to a track in Live (vs. the routing procedure using one instance).

You can? wow, that's neat.....how does it work (I don't have guru....yet). You drag a created pattern and it creates a midi clip in live in a single midi channel? can you give me some more details on this, I'm potentially interested in getting Guru to use in live8.

this is the one thing I haven't liked about beat boxes, is lacking a super-quick export functionality to get patterns into the host...but you can't beat drag-n-drop...

I've not tried the rewire approach tbh, but I would think the same thing applies as to using more than one instance of the plug in, CPU pressure.

Routing is so easy in Live I would think it beats using multiple instances anytime.

I have' actually tried though so...I dunno, just IMO.

You can also record the individual pad, engine, total output etc. inside Guru and drag it as an audio clip straight into Live too. S'great.

AFAIK Rewire is gone from GURU, too few users and too much upkeep according to a developer I guess... Kinda sucks for live performance use, but not the end of the world.
GURU is pretty sweet. I'm happy with 1.6, now that you can have 16 measure long patterns you can really use it to write with IMO.

While that's true to a degree, GURU's sequencer is made specifically for drum sequencing, so the step sequencer is dammed quick to work in. Too many differences to mention from Live. Let's just say Live can do it all, but not as fluidly. You can also use GURU to sequence Drum Racks in Live if you wanted, haven't tried that yet, but I will considering there are a few Reactor ensembles that are specifically for designing kick drums etc.
