installing Live 8 suite upgrade, takes a while, doesn't it ?

I downloaded and installed Live 8 Suite. The download is really large, I've got a 5GB monthly plan, so won't be watching too many videos this month :) ... anyway...

the "do you want to create a new library" tripped me up. Yes I wanted to, but I guess it created it in the same spot my old library was. Not sure what's going to happen if I open up Live 7 on this computer again.

Then. opened a set, done previously in Live 7. It sounds much better-- clearer, better separation between elements, specifically-- in Live 8.

There was an audio effects rack that I remembered I liked in the beta, so I wanted to apply that to the drums. But it wasn't available, and then it was "oh, yeh, it is only showing the presets from the project". So I did the Library repair thing, which detected a bunch of Live packs not yet installed, and so it installed those, which takes a really long time. Now it is scanning the library, which also looks like it is going to take a long time. I had planned on setting aside a few hours for Live 8 goodness, but looks like that will all be used up installing it :)

Not complaining, mind you, it seems to be progressing well. Just wondering, how long did it take you to run the upgrade install from Live 7 suite to Live 8 suite?

hm, it didn't take so long here. I had live 7 suite download, and upgraded to 8. No problem, twenty minutes or so. Not different much than installing a beta. I didn't install any sesion drums, drum machines, EICs or such, though.

I converted my old library to the 8 format. Now I can't use presets when using live 7. ouch.

Yeah, the session drums took a loooong time to load onto my system.
Haven't bothered to put EIC on as yet.

All good things take time. :)

It's HUGE. What is it, 1.43 Gig? It's supposed to take a long time if you are upgrading to suite from Live 6. Live 7 would take a lot less and of course the more instruments you already have, the less time it will take. What I noticed is that it takes a long time to execute the initial set up file. I would imagine it's just that it's monstrous is all.

There is definitely something different about the save, save as, manage files in project/set process when you are getting all your poop in a group. It's almost like a Fat32 process would be, but of course that's HD configuration dependent and I am certain everything on my end is ntfs.

What I have been very impressed about so far is how efficiently Live 8 is spreading itself out across multiple cores. I was running Stylus RMX in full 8 channel multi timbrel, Reaktor 5, Massive, Absynth 4, Tension, Electric & Drum Racks as HARD as I could last night while recording everything on dedicated tracks in the session view. I was using TONS of midi effects and audio effects in every track. The highest I could get my CPU was 36% in the most insane applications I could come up with. Normally it was residing under 20% most of the time.

I've got a 3G wireless modem (EVDO Rev-A), it is nationwide service, which is kind of nice-- the service is $60 a month, but if you go over that 5GB, you are heavily screwed, to the tune of twenty five cents a megabyte.
