MIDI Sync

So i'm using a midi keyboard controller for the first time in live :)
What i'm using is a MicroKorg, i connected the midi out on it to the midi in on my mbox2 :)

So unless i have the buffer size at a very small ammount i get lots of delay when playing.
But the problem is my computer isn't handling a small buffer size. so when i'm up to like 60 percent cpu it starts to go all bitchy on me (and believe me it doesn't take alot to get it to 60 CPU.

So here's my question. Is there a thing in this world called zero latency midi monitoring? (guess not...)

Any Ableton user's on here that can give me any tips on this?
My computer spec's are in my signiture.
Thanks in advance, IceCreamChild ;)

Have you tried selecting different drivers for your sound card in the audio preferences tab? This can make a lot of difference, personally ASIO drivers work the smoothest for me.

As for the CPU load, try freezing processor hungry tracks ie ones loaded with a big VST and a long chain of fx.

Hope this helps.

Well i'm using the Digedesign Asio Sound driver because i'm using the mbox and it work's ok and freezing tracks doesn't seem to make a difference...

Should i be using another driver?

I would think the ASIO driver should be fine, set the buffer to a size that gives you a latency of just under 10ms. Also try turning off graphics acceleration on your sound card.

The main problem is the 60% though, freezing tracks should definately reduce this. There is a section in the manual that deals specifically with reducing CPU load, have a read of that for some ideas.
