Or can I only adjust the volume for the overall track. Like if I have lead guitar for the verse, prechorus and chorus all in different clips of the same track, how can I change the volume on each one/is it not possible?
Otherwise I'll have to use multiple tracks I suppose but that lags my compy more.

there's a volume control for each clip.
select the clip, now look in the bottom left of your screen

I must be missing it or something. I'm running 5.2.2., is it different in this version?

Ahh ok there it is thanks. I was trying to do it using Midi tracks but I can only do it in normal audio tracks I suppose, correct?
So say i want to use a digital instrument for midi, like a synthesizer. If i want to do like a verse, then prechorus, then chorus synthesizer in different clips in the same track, can I vary the volume levels for each part for that, for midi tracks i mean?

yes you can do it in live 7, no idea about live 5 tho. I use the envelope section to do it, can do it via the midi cc7 or cc11: volume and expression. Wouldn't be the only way of doing it either... Good luck
