Hi guys,

I'm trying to do this:

When I launch a sample and it's playing, I want to press a button on my midi controller that triggers quick 'rewinds' in the sample playing...
For example: This is a *now i press the button* s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s *i release the button* sample

You see? :)

I guess it's quite easy but I can't find it anywhere...

Thanks!

A 'stutter' effect, that's what i need!

check the clip launch modes. There is one called "repeat" which does exactly what you want. you will need to adjust clip quantization accordingly.

Yeah I already found that out, but that only does the trick in the beginning of the sample, right?

I want to be able to achieve this 'effect' at any position in the sample...

Haven't tried this myself but you should be able to do it with beat repeat. Get it set up with the repeat length you want and then map the power button to your midi controller.

The only problem I can see is that you will need to hit that button right before the first 's' in 'stutter'. It isn't going to rewind if you hit it after the 's', it will just repeat the 't' then.

You also won't be able to sweep through the sample as you would with a proper stutter effect created by sweeping the start position of a repeating sample.

doing this live is a little more tricky than just chopping up some audio

bump for someone with a good option

You could try the slice to new midi track trick... add in some transients where you need them, you will then be able to control the sample using midi.

There is always Robert henke's example which is not quite what you want but interesting all the same..

I want to be able to achieve this 'effect' at any position in the sample...

Then assign a button the the "set start marker" to set the start flag at any position in the sample while it plays... then hold the play button.

or beat repeat.

Cover disc of Computer Music. Includes a copy of Sugar Bytes 'Artillery 2 CM eddition for FREE' if you don't know 'Sugar Bytes - Artillery 2' get on over and check it out. Sounds like a good freebie for you sittuation.

Or if you don't have 'Sampler' you could do a lot worse than have Ableton sampler of course and watch Robert H's tutorials on times stretching through a sample with internal modulations. (which of course work with note on and off variations..)

You could also map out various slices of stutter's (what a mouthfull) to Drum Rack and then launch them in improvised Nee Random performance stylee...(with one of full play back of course)

Lastly theres also a free scratch tool available which I think is on the cover disc of CM also which will capture and stutter your wav's to a fashion..(can't recall what it's called though)

Hope that helps..

Peace...

Doing this with one button is hard....

Three buttons however is pretty easy:

Firstly map buttons to loop on/off, loop start set and loop end set. Then make sure that the quantize for the clip in question is set to none. To achieve the effect that you want you then start playing the clip, just before it gets to the s you hit the loop start set button then just before the a you hit the loop end set button. This will start the s looping, when you now hit the loop on/off button you will now drop back into playing ample.

This method is preferable to using beatrepeat as unlike beatrepeat it does not continue progressing along the sample while you are repeating the s.

Hope that helps.
