Not a trekkie here either, but I do have an embarrassingly intense urge to see this movie as soon as possible.

Indeed, the theater around me is playing the movie tomorrow night at 7:40... I really like Star Trek 4: Let's Save the Whales, but other than that I have no trek knowledge... this could be cool, though. Gotta be better than that awful Wolverine movie.

Yeah, time to get geeked. I'll be catching this flick on the weekend.
I just don't know how I can take "Harold" seriously!

Total Star Trek fan here. Geeked to see this flick.
What's incredible is the RAVE reviews - many of which are coming from fellow geeks; who are usually the harshest critics of Trek films. That's saying something.
Just go over to AintItCool. The reviews are DRIPPING with praise; from folks that have really savaged the last couple of Trek films.
In fact, I've yet to read a bad review.

^ my brother-in-law is a die hard purist. Hates the idea of a reboot. Hates the modernization of his beloved show. He's gonna see it, but he ain't gonna like it!
I, on the other hand, am all for reboots. The franchise has died. Audiences have become more sophisticated. The notion of an Utopian society as envisioned by Roddenberry is just too naive. With Abrams' direction and ingenuity, I think this movie is gonna be outstanding. Best since Wrath? I think it may be even better than Wrath! (Blasphemy!!)

Yes, that's what I'm saying about die hards. They wanted to HATE this film, but every review from a purist I've read says that it's amazing. And that it's NOT a reboot at all.
Roddenberry's Utopian vision too naive? Says the guy from a fucked up 21st century.
We've got, oh, about 150 years before Jonathan Archer commands the first Enterprise. So don't lose hope, Neb.
Also, think about how many versions of Live we'll be up to by that point!

Not a Trekie but hugely excited about this film. I love all these reboots that have been happening; Batman, James Bond and now Star Trek. To me the reboots are far superior to their predecesors. The old films are just not sophisticated enough for today aufience, at least not for me. I love the grittiness and thought provoking morality that these reboots have brought. Can't wait to see it.
