problem with Ableton 8 Groups and duplicate

I have an issue with groups. I really love them (fav. feature in 8 ), but it's annoying if you work on the arragment and want to copy/duplicate parts, because the content won't get copied/duplicated.

- Create a group with a midi track and/or a audio track
- put some content on the tracks
- close the group
- copy/duplicate it

result:
nothing is duplicated

do I overlook something?

It seems that you can't freeze a group too. What a pity, since I can't use VSTs in rewire mode ( I slave to cubase sometimes) I have to freeze the whole arrange to use it. hmm

yes these are problems with group tracks. not fun at all.

when the group track is closed, you can't edit ANYTHING. Pretty lame in my opinion.

They can't be frozen because they don't contain anything on the track, sort of like a track set to "in" (i think). one of the covops fellas explained that logic to me once but i don't remember the particulars

unfold and select all the tracks, hit freeze. A few extra clicks, but better than freezing EVERYTHING.

if you're doing all that freezing consistently make sure you "file menu" --> "manage files" --> "manage project" --> "show unused files" and then delete the unused ones when you're done with the project, or even after you make new freeze files every once and awhile.

groups in live 8 are completely half-assed!

of course you should be able to edit one track in a group and have all the others match it.. as it stands the feature is just a shortcut to making a mix group via a sub master.

just look at how edit groups work in pro tools - its obvious!

am i the only person who is working with multi-mic audio in ableton? (ie multiple tracks of drum mics which i need to edit all at once).

get serious ableton!

I'm not understanding the problem in editing MultiMic takes (together) in arrangement view...
also
it's not wise to make comparisons to other DAWs ...instead of looking at what is gained...
Ableton have been known to implement features in their on 'style' which doesn't conform to the way other DAWs are doing it

the 'groups' in live are more of an easy routing/organizational solution...
they don't hold any clips...therefore it's logical they won't 'freeze'...

instead of routing audio to a bus the old way... you just choose the tracks and hit 'ctrl-g'... quite usefull...
and the fact that every group in session view can trigger a 'scene' is an excellent feature!
and they can be folded ...
cheer up !

only complain i personally have is that the group fold/unfold button is not midi/key mappable... what a pity.
makes them unusable for live performances, to me!

you can map to a keystroke with bomes/midistroke though. HEYO!

under the view menu the last selection is contextual, so it changes depending and what is selected.

I just went through in OSx and changes the key mapping so now it's the same shortcut for each thing. it is by default, but i had changed only one, but now that i noticed it's contextual nature and went in and changed the others.

So now with cmd =/- i can open and close chains/groups and zoom in arrange. I happy
