Export Slices
Export Slices
Scenario:
you're recording sounds around the house, drums from your sampler, whatever, and want to build a little library of those sounds; a common sound design task.
You proceed to record your entire session into Live. 30 minutes of recording may yield a thousand or so samples. (not all good, but some definitely are)
Now what do you do to get all your individual sounds? You're stoked that live has Slice To Midi with transient detection...
... only that won't let you export individual slices.
... and that's the feature request!
- Use the slicing and transient detection of Live to generate either:
a) Individual clips
or:
b) Individual cropped samples of one longer sample, in preparation for export.
- I can currently slice up to 128 slices out of a beat or whatever, but I can't put those slices anywhere of my choosing.
Please let us "Export Slices" directly from a right-click or whatever in any sample. That would rule so hard.
Andreas.

+ 1 for destructive slicing!
Re: Export Slices
Yes please I'm in the process of creating over 1200 drum samples and its killing me.
Also to apply processing to these I'm freezing then flattening which then gives me a file suffixed with (freeze)
renaming 1200 samples and clips is mind numbing.Being able to flatten without freezing would be nice retaining original file names.

Re: Export Slices
You've Definitely got my vote.
Further to this I would like to add a related feature request. In drum racks we all like to create our own custom kits. These hand picked samples are scattered in various locations of our drives. For the sake of organization & backup purposes I like to create separate folders for each drum kit I create. I have a folder in my sample collection called "My Kits". Within is a folder for each kit containing all samples for them.
So the feature request is can we have an "Export Kit" or "Save Kit" option for Drum Racks?
Benefits are clear.
Personally I would love to get into the business of creating sample CD's so the above 2 features would be a god send.

- * For backup we always know where the samples used are located. Never will Ableton lose associated files if in the future we decide to re-organize our sample collection
* Another massive benefit would be portability it would be easy to save your kit. Take it to a friends house with a different computer, load it up and away you go!
* Collaborating with other artists would be a joy, you could share kits very quickly and easily.

Re: Export Slices
just drag the .adg into a project folder
manage it, collect and save
that should do it
manage it, collect and save
that should do it
Re: Export Slices
The issue here is that you can't get *individual samples* that can be used elsewhere.
I really doubt that - when "slicing to midi" all you get is the one sample with different start points - works fine inside Live, but it does nothing outside Live.

Re: Export Slices
if that was directed at my post, i had only meant to address Debrecini's post about packing sounds along with a drum rack preset
Re: Export Slices
gotcha. ... it's still a "dirty" way of doing it though, since you're stuck with long indexed samples... imo.

Re: Export Slices
agreed.
my point is that that functionality is 100% (edit: well, OK 90% - it would be easier as a command or etc, rather than via file manager)
the missing functionality is the original request.
once there is an easy way to create truncated samples, the mechanism for containing them with a preset file already exists.
carry on...

Re: Export Slices
For my point yeah I suppose there is the sample manager for collecting samples into the project folder.
But like Machinate says you end up with a bunch of samples with start and end times manipulated. Therefore the samples are useless for anything else but Ableton. I should have mentioned this the first time but when you save the kit it should destructively crop the samples. So anything outside the start and end times is deleted and you end up with only what you used.
You should still have the normal way of doing it which does not destructively edit the samples. But my idea would be a very handy tool that saves time for saving kits. As you'd then have the option to save the samples with destructive edits.
I still also agree with Machinate's original post to be able to export each individual slice. Again by cropping / deleting everything outside the slices start and end times.
Both these ideas are very closely related and it would be amazing to see them realized.

Re: Export Slices
Sup Sup!?!?
Here's how I do it.
- Slice to single sampler
- Open up the Zone tab and select all Zones
- Right Click -> Crop Sample
- all Slices are chopped and put in your Project/Samples/Crop Folder
- Batch Rename
A few steps involved but works fine...
Is that what your talkin about?

Re: Export Slices
aight, aight! That's the Sampler folk sorted out
Cheers bro.
- still not as slick as it could be with a dedicated "Feature", but it'll get me through this project, for sure!

Re: Export Slices
No prob. Yeah, dedicated feature would be nice. I kind of like this way though, I can fine tune the start and end points then bam! Guess I could do that before hand too...Machinate wrote:aight, aight! That's the Sampler folk sorted outCheers bro.

Re: Export Slices
okay, am I the only one who has this problem though;
make the Sampler crop all your samples, and lo and behold, they all have remnants of the next sound in them... shit. I'lll need to reduce the length of all of these samples... shite.
