I've had enough of Windows and need a laptop so im going for either a Macbook Pro 15 or a Macbook 2.4Ghz. The thing is do I really need a the extra power graphic power, fire wire. Is it worth the $700 Aus dollars?
Please advise?

I use the little white macbook and that is fine and has firewire unlike the alu macbooks, which are style over anything else.
If you can afford a MBP, then no harm in getting one, the extra processing power and spec is always worth it, though MBPs are far from good value for money.

if you can get a last generation mbp go for it. should be way cheap + firewire + a tad more powerful for non ableton things (graphics)

the new white macbooks, which are 2GHZ, have a better graphics card than the earlier 2.4GHZ white macbooks.
i agree they are by far the best bang for your buck of any mac laptop, much lighter than a MBP, and more rugged.
i've had mine nearly 3 years and though my superdrive is somewhat broken everything else still functions and never had CPU
issues with live (i'm on a 2GHZ).

been running live on a macbook under OS X since since 2007. 3gb ram (unmatched) and no issues. I also run a triple boot config, which enables me to choose to boot into XP or Ubuntu ..practical for my needs. I have the black one, but go with a white one (less cost) and load it with RAM. You can't go wrong.
