I’m in the market to get a new pair of headphones for the studio.

Right now I have Sony MDR-V900HD and I feel that I’m not getting the sound out of it, and I’m looking to get Audio-Technica ATH-M50, but I’m not to sure.

So is there any or headphones in the under $200 price range that are good? Or the headphones that I already have are fine.

Well I'm not familiar with what you have mentioned, but I can say that you can't go wrong with AKG 240.

A quick google shopping search show's they're coming in at $99 at many places, which is a bargain considering how reliable these are.

i got the audio-technica ATH-M50's.. comfortable, no fatigue, and their pretty flat, nothing exaggerated which is good.. no complaints.. break'em in for a couple of weeks and they are pretty accurate.. plus, w/ the swivel cups you can use them for djing if needed..

i use sony mdr-7506 ($100) and i wouldn't look at anything else in the price range. they give a very accurate stereo image. i found the akg240 to be lacking in low end and sounded a bit dull. to me.

+1 to audio technica ath-50s - great quality at half or 3 times less than what you would pay for an equivalent AKG or Sennheiser and just as well made. Awesome phones.

I like Sennheiser HD650's a lot too, but I don't think they are worth the dime. Sony MDR7509 HDs are also very good.

Love the ATH-M50's here! You owe it to yourself to check 'em out. Very detailed sound... not hyped or fatiguing. Wish I had bought a pair sooner.

I have had a number of headphones admittedly cheaper ones and have been disappointed they have been uncomfortable on the ears and the quality not much better than my mp3 ear speakers I have since bought a pair of AKG 240 and finally have a pair I enjoy using I recommend them.

+1 for the Audio-Technica ATH-M50. I've used them for about a year. Excellent sound: detailed with a flat response, but they get a little hot and sweaty if you wear them too long.

Audio-Technica M50's are rather accurate phones with good bass response and overall performance. The thing is they are closed-back phones, so for ultimate accuracy you are looking for open-back or semi-open studio phones, such as Sennheiser HD650 or AKG K701, though both models are out of your budget. With phones like M50's your ears will get tired sooner, if you intend to work with music for a longer time. They isolate very well, but I find them to be rather "pressing on ears" after an hour or so of working with them. The overall performance is good and I agree it's a great value for the buck, but I wouldn't use them for 24/7 critical listening work.

You may want to look for some cheaper AKG models, such as AKG K240 ($100) - they are too a very good value for the money.

What kind of headphone amplifier are you using if any?

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 were a very tight fit on my large(ish) head. Nice balanced sound though for the money.

The best phones i've ever used have got to be the AKG K701's. But they're expensive, open, and they're a little delicate (forget DJ-ing).

Not within your specified price range, but if you don't mind dropping some coin for high quality, I found a demo set of Ultrasone Proline 750 for $250. New they cost $475. I my opinion, there's nothing out like them. Fantastic.
