Hello Everyone,

I've watched Robert Babicz talk about mastering and especially DIY mastering. He mentioned that after he's ready with the mixdown he bounces it to a Reel to Reel tape and than back to )Logic or whatever DAW).So I was wondering if I have say an old deck and use a decent cassette will it make sense trying to bounce my tracks to tape.I've browsed a little over the net and people and mastering engineers say that it makes the sound more analog and natural to human ears.If anyone has some experience with this method please share it...!BTW i know it's probably silly trying it with non expensive gear, but just out of curiousity  !

I sometimes will send pads or beats out to a cassette tape to dirty them up. I use just a basic tape recorder for this and route it thru my mixer and effects pedals. Old cassettes sometimes give a unique sound as well (stretched out tape sounds warbly.) You can also damage the tape for more dirt. Here's a link about tape destruction if you're interested:

Yeah i always bounce to tape i often mix from tape. It sounds amazing.
Yeah because we as humans have grown up with music recorded onto tape psychological we expect this sound.
If you want i can ran your track through a Otari MTR90MKII tape machine i have access to, plus this is set up to a neve v3.
If you are interested let me know ( obviously there will be a small price involved)

Yeah i'm glad i grew up with vinyl fuck mp3, thankfully mx4 and flax or flec whatever it is called is coming out. So that should at least bring a small amount of quality to the digital world.
Also be thankfully a lot of the studios that around are now bringing back tape so at least its recorded and mixed on tape but does this really matter when the public dont care about quality they just want quinity.

So does anyone want there stuff run through tape????
offer stands for a week.

Colour and saturation.
analog distortion rather than digital hard clipping.

Of course it does,
it makes the sound better there for better quality.

Michael, i wouldn't mind running some mixes through the Otari and Neve.

Do you recommend doing this pre, ahem, "mastering" (ie wanging it through T-racks)?
