de/incrementing BPM via a MIDI button?

I'm trying to setup a MIDI controller at the moment for use in live DJ sets. One thing I really want to be able to do (but can't work out) is to have a MIDI button that increments the BPM by +1 and another that does the opposite.
Can anyone explain how to get this setup? I'm using Live 7 on OSX. If it's different in Live 8 I guess that could be a good excuse to upgrade though...
Thanks in advance!

i've gone crazy with this as i use my novation zero and it has incremental/decr encoders..with makes this much easier.
however this is the way to go:
on your controller editor, set the two buttons to the same cc# (say cc#30);
their behaviour to momentary;
the bpm increment button gets On Value:1 Off Value: 0
the bpm decrement button gets On Value:0 Off Value:127
then in live's midi map mode map this cc to tempo control
set the range of the tempo to 30-286 (i know its a lot but it is necessary to have variations of 1bpm. if you can settle down to 0.5 bpm increments then you can set this to say 60-188)
set the mode (in the lower left of live gui) to "relative-lin 2's comp"
..et voilĂ ! bpm + & - buttons!
hope it helps..cheers

I understand you want two buttons, but if you are willing to just assign 1 knob to do the job then it will be much easier. For example, assign a knob to master tempo. Set the min to say 60 and max to 187 bpm (remember that MIDI has 128 steps) and there you go - you have 128, 1bpm step increments. If you want 0.1 bpm steps, just make a 12.8 range - say 120 to 132.7.

That's perfect NPC - thanks!
Can't believe it's such an odd process to get this setup, I'm sure loads of people must want to do this. Anyway, that works great, thanks again.

Hey I realize it's been years but I'm about to blow my brains out over this.

Trying to use Maschine JAM to be a performance/dj controller. It doesn't have transpose.
I'd like to transpose a track live for mixing purposes. Say a song is playing. Song you're mixing in is harmonically compatible 1-2 semi+ or sem-. You temporarily transpose, then go back to the new track's original key to preserve sound quality by stepping back.
Core function imo but fak.
I tried to use the Native Instruments controller editor to setup two midi cc's according to this guide here but it didn't work. I own Bome Midi Translator Pro. Might try that. It's so much work to get such little things done :/
