No detail really on what they are making and how it will be different than Live. But something to watch anyway...

Developers.. Buncha drunks, the whole lot of them.
That is why we at the CovOps initiated the "Hydrate a developer" program.
Gotta watch out for those Swedes though. For all we know they're making an add-on to live called "Automate".

I think its time to sick Musotalk and a camera on these guys again. We know where the office is now

One out of the four guys is Claes, the creator of Surge, which is a wonderful softsynth, and Shortcircuit, a wondeful sampler. Promising...

sort of reminds me of the hasselhoff effect

and remember that the ableton gods left the bullshit corpatocracy of Native Instruments ( they were once employees0..... the way i had it explained to me was that Native Instruments laughed when they first showcased their new creative sequencing environment.... Native Instruments said it was not in the scope of their company... i bet they regret it now..... sort of like when NBC cut out Baywatch and it got a deal with an international syndicate only to become the most watched show ever.... thanks to the japanese among many others.

That's actually kind of lame. Making music by breaking away from the conventions of a hardware studio? That's one of Live's fundamental concepts and what sets it apart from Pro Tools, Logic, and all the rest.

Show me an ounce of original thought and I'll be intrigued.

Well, that's precisely why it's intriguing. What can they do that Ableton didn't think about or couldn't achieve? Is not "breaking away from the conventions of a hardware studio", more than Ableton, due in the first place to the boom of powerful and affordable computers? Max/Msp is anterior to Live, right? There might still be some room for interesting ideas.
Howerver, when Max for Live will be here, it will be very hard to beat. Can't wait...

Yeah, the problem is no information seems to leak so far...
I do hope it is original, but originality for the sake of it can be lame too.
If you take Surge as an example, it might not seem so original, but the ergonomics, the workflow, the options, the sound make it a very peculiar synth i wouldn't trade for nothing else.
But anyway, it'd better be something worth it: making a flop after creating a big buzz... eek
The bitwig blog definitely has an Ableton taste. Uh... I hope they're not trying to make an Ableton bis. X
If they won this award, it means that they unveiled a little bit of it, no?
Anyone has a few details or did i just miss it? There's a link to an interview but it's in german.

Interview doesn't give any real details other than to say that they're making a virtual studio and software instruments targeted at the "bedroom producer" level.

not even sure they want to reinvent the wheel... there is a lot of myth about ableton, maybe they are just tired to work for them anymore or any other employer.

And yet, again: Live8 + Max for Live might cast a big shadow over this, whatever it will be, and many other "inventions".
I would be a daw/sequencer developer, i guess i would loose courage and confidence at the sight of this future monster.

There is something to be said for starting from scratch, using the experiences you have gained in the process.

could be very interesting...

I can't say I blame them for going for it. Who doesn't want to strike out on their own to try to make it big? That's one of the fundamentals of Ableton AG. :)

Best of luck guys! I look forward to BedroomBand. I mean Bitwig.

I'm certainly curious to see what they come up with, I guess it'll be a while until we find out. Aiming at the bedroom producer doesn't sound too inspiring though!

I know that's where the market is, but it seems like a low aim.
