Sound Quality Live 4 vs. SX

Post by musick » Thu Aug 12, 2004 3:12 pm

Hi,

Did anyone run any comparisons of the sound quality of Live 4 compared to SX? (of coarse with non-warped waves) Do the VSTi's and plugins sound as good? I'm planning to move from SX to Live for producing and this is about the only thing that I'm not sure about.

I assume Live uses floats internaly so that should not be a problem but what about the phase relation between the busses and dezippering of volume controls and other automation?

I have compared XS and Live.
SX has a better sound quality by a small margin.
I you use Live 4 to perform live events..try this:
Route all tarcks to Ext..rather than Master and you shouold have A near SX soound.
If you plan to produce and record with Live then you have to use the Master routing..which will diminish the sound quality by a small but noticable margin.
Your best option will be to route all tracks to Ext #cahnnels and then physically route them again to an external recorder.

I hope that helped with your query.

Thanks for the info Khaled,

Could there be some form of compression in the master output? Would be great to be able to switch it to 'bit perfect'....
I think I'll have to stay with SX and rewire Live to it till Live 5 is out :)
