......The stone roses and the happy mondays.
I was a metal head back in their prime in the late 80's, and then went the grunge route.....I can't believe I let such great talent slip by me.

Any recommendations for tracks or albums by these bands.

The Stone Roses didn't release many albums (2 albums), I think their most popular track was "Fools Gold" - drumming not often heard outside of soul and funk genres at the time of its release (check out Reni - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Wren ). At any rate, The first album was the better of the two IMO - Shoot You Down was another track with some pretty nice drums, although I pretty much think the whole album was great (This Is The One, Elizabeth my dear, were also faves). They remind me of a younger version of The Doves.

Love Spreads was the only hit I remember from the second album...I listened to Second Coming a few times, but never got into it.

omfg. Stone Rose's first and eponymous album is a f-ng classic!! definitely without a doubt in my top 5 all time albums. their second album is better than most but not quite as good as their first. just go buy them.

Happy Mondays - great band, pills bills and bellyaches is another classic.

big fan of the Roses here, but the main drums on Fools gold is a sample loop of JBs "Funky Drummer", its not something Wren came up with!

Sadly I did miss it all together.......
I came from speed/thrash metal into nyc hardcore.......Did not mellow out until discovering Janes and faith....then soundgarden, alice and chains, monster magnet and the butthole surfers had me pretty much captive until I rediscovered James brown and funk/acid jazz, some hip hop then broke free with the first chemical bros., loop guru, transglobal underground, the crystal method and other mid 90's electronica.....

So yes I missed it......still did enough drugs to have qualified, but missed it.

the pinnacle of the Baggy/shoegazing scene for me was Ride.

long feedback psychadelic freakouts interspersed with gorgeous 60s style pop melodies. while we are talking about the whole scene lets also mention:

My cousin turned me off of the Manchester scene. She was so obsessed that she and her best friend moved to Manchester for a year. They discovered rain and soot, and then returned to the states, sans band boy and sans money.

I always thought bullet for my valentine was an emo band for pre-bleeder females.
