Latency problems in Live 8

Hi there,
I recently bought Live 8 Suite, as I previously had Ableton Live 6. Like many people, I've been impressed by the new features but its currently so buggy that its practically unusable. I was wondering if anyone has noticed the latency increasing significantly?
If I start a new set, there will be very little latency when I play my guitar. However, as soon as I add a few tracks, the latency is totally unusable.
Can anyone help with this? This was not an issue in Live 6 as when I open a song I created in Live 6 it works fine, just Live 8 that has trouble.
The Latency is controlled by the Emu's ASIO buffer - which is at about 5ms.
My set up is as follows:
Q6600 Quad core
Emu 1212m soundcard
Behringer ADA 8000
Focusrite Liquid mix
UAD-1 PCI E Card
4Gb RAM

Same here...there were more and more poeple using Live as a standard linear sequencer, hopefully Ableton is working on this bug (in live 8 VST latencies also are more dominant...somehow)
Windows Vista 32 bit

Hi Otaylor003,
are you using Live 8.0.3? If not, please download and install it from here:

Jörg

Jorg,
I downloaded 8.03 the other day and it had the same problems - as I say, its fine when the tracks are empty, but as soon as I add a few VSTs it becomes unusable. I am aware that I can work around this by rendering a song to disk, starting a new set - add in the rendered audio so I can record my guitar with v low latency, and then take this recorded guitar back into the original set - but I'm sure you'll agree its not the ideal solution.
Thanks,
Owen.

Hi Owen,
this problem should have gotten fixed with 8.0.3. However, if you add a couple of VSTs that come with a high latency to either:
- the track you are recording to itself
- a return track
- the master track
then it is technically not possible to compensate this latency while recording. Some plug-ins (for example Vintage Warmer) come with a large amount of latency, I would recommend to avoid using such plug-ins while recording and to add them during the mixdown process.
In case the problem persists on your machine, even though no VSTs are added to the tracks I mentioned above, please contact
[email protected], attach a copy of your .als file (no audio files needed).
Best,
Jörg

Thanks Jörg,
I'll bear this in mind and give a try over the next few days. Thanks for the quick responses to my query,
Owen.

Jörg,
Thanks for your help - I had a number of plug ins on the master bus - which if I delete, removes the latency problem.
However, I noticed that I have to delete them - and if I simply turn them off in Live, the latency remains, even though the plug ins are not active. Will this be sorted in future upgrades?
Cheers,
Owen.
