I'm sure I'll be extremely popular for this, but I wrote it so here it is.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ableton, but I have to call it like I see it.

Transients are hard, let's go shopping.

If you're going to discount what I have to say, give actual examples. I spend far more time working on music than I do writing (and I listen to new music while I write); I just feel that if you have something to say and can articulate it properly, it's a responsibility for you to do so.

Besides, it's your own damn choice whether to buy it or not.

I just feel Ableton's description of the upgrade... doesn't quite do it justice.

well for starters you can double click to add a marker at any given location..
Live 8 doesn’t let you “double click” and add warp points in these sections, noooo… warp points are only allowed to be placed on transients. Even if you’re not using a transient-based warping method.

Ableton has the best customer support in the business. Hands down, every time you Email Ableton, they write back. They work very hard to solve your problem.

Personal care, and customer support is:

A) Highly expensive- Hence all the robots we get, when we call major corporations nowadays.

B) Great for human beings- There is nothing like knowing, somebody else is trying to help solve your problem.

As long as Ableton is in business, it is a music performance and studio tool that can receive constant updating, and innovation. Imagine having to buy a new music rig every year at the cost of $1,000,000. Come on, Ableton is cheap as chips. You are buying the experience, not the software. The software you are licensing to use.

True, but the point is this - Ableton's default behavior renders entire sections of an auto-warped tune completely unusable unless you either change the warp behavior or add enough markers/transients to account for all audible transients; otherwise you end up with a bunch of stuttering strings and out-of-time guitar parts.

Customer support is nice, and it's also nice that Ableton listens to what their customers want, but I think part of the problem is you guys are mostly, no offense, a bunch of amateurs. The more Ableton listens to you, the less their software will rise to professional standards.

Companies like Adobe don't have this problem because most of their users actually use it professionally. As a result, their presets are mostly usable and allow you to get work done quickly.

This is not true of Ableton's presets. I don't care what kind of music work you do - Ableton's preset library does not contain the tools you need to get real work done quickly.

And when Ableton rises to a professional standard, who will bother using it? Sasha? BT? PVD? Oh wait, these guys already own licenses.....

It's not like they have a choice. Like it or not, Ableton is the closest thing we have to a usable combined performance and editing environment. Nothing else even comes close.

funny site on the whole, I liked the section about the ableton preset designers and the comparison to photoshop.
