We are not able to reproduce the problem that a Live 4.0.1 crashes when loading a song with a Reakor 4.1.2 VST instrument or effect. We found a bug that prevented the Audio Unit to load. This problem will be fixed in Live 4.0.2.

Can please everybody who is willing to help report to this thread if he or she has problems with loading songs with Reaktor 4 VSTs. Please also report if you do not have any problems.

Please make sure you really use the latest Reaktor 4 VST. The version of Reaktor should be 4.1.2.001 or better. Please verifiy in the plug-in custom editor window!
Please don't forget to mention if you are on Mac or PC. Please report the Operating System Version.
It would be of great help if you are willing to send the song file without samples and everything required to reproduce the problem. But do this only on request. Please mention in the report which ensamble you used.
Please use only Live 4.0.1 for testing.

i can't get live to crash when opening a live set that already includes reaktor vst/vsti's, but i get easily reproducible crashes from loading reaktor vsts into an already open set. on opening a set, i can create one instance of a reaktor vst/vsti, but the second attempt to create one will always lead to a crash. this seems to be the same for both reaktor instruments and effects and seems to happen with any ensemble. when i reopen the file i can again add one more reaktor instance, but then it crashes when i load a second. sorry if this doesn't relate. my specs are in my signature below, and here is a sample crash log:

i have never been able to load a set containing an au reaktor fx in live 4. vst fx load fine. here is the report for a set containing nothing except one au reaktor fx ensemble created from the "new ensemble" option and auto-saved in the same folder. there is also a crash when you delete a reaktor au fx and undo. the report for that is below. also, if you have access to an elektron sidstation, you might want to test it out. live crashes mine about 40% of the time when i start playback and am not sending any midi on its receiving channel and about 80% of the time when i start playback and send notes on the first step. perhaps mine is sick, but i do not have this problem with any other sequencing software, including reaktor.

Scientist, from your crash log I can see that you installed a Audio Unit Reaktor plug-in. The crash is deep inside of Reaktor and no Live code is involved. One note of caution: We experience heavy problems within Native Instruments plug-ins when VST and Audio Unit version of the same product are used. Please make sure not to mix the formats.

If you have crashes with adding VST Reaktor plug-ins to a song with already a VST Reaktor installed, please post the crash log. Thanks.

Kim, thanks for reporting. I make sure we test Undo as well. But it looks like the same problem that will be gone with the fix in Live 4.0.2.

are you suggesting we should only have one plugin variety installed (vst provides more utility)? or are only allowed to use either one, not both?

I suggest you should only use one format VST or AU of one virtual instrument or effect (Reaktor, Kontakt) in one song at a time. You can mix the format of different instruments. Probably it is more secure to extend the usage of one format for a plug-in for a whole session. We only experienced problems with Native Instruments products. Other vendors seem to have no problems.

hi frank,
i was pretty sure i only used reaktor vsts in my test, so i tried again with the same results. i removed the reaktor component so it no longer shows up as an audio unit, opened a new live set, opened vsti (oki computer), and then added a vst effect (autofreeze1) which causes the crash. i wouldn't doubt at all that this is a problem with reaktor. i've had reaktor since it was first released for mac, and have had problems with it ever since. go figure.

stacking more than one vst reaktor fx ensembles on an audio track almost always crashes live for me. same with a reaktor instrument channel going thru a reaktor effect. given the modular nature of this program, this is fairly simple to get around, but it would be nice not to need to wire up the chain inside reaktor.

apologies for my slow response - we only just went up to 4.0.1.

Upon examining crash logs, it is clear that the songs that were made with the beta that wouldn't load used the AU plugin.


Doing some tests with the VST plugin all seems good. Yay!

Using a Powerbook G4 1Ghz, 256MB RAM, Mac OS X 10.3.5
Live 4.0.1

I created a sequence using Reaktor 4.1.2 (AU version) as an insert effect, played, edited, saved it just fine. But it will not open now. Live just crashes. So yes, I was able to reproduce the problem, but I wish I had read this forum before using Reaktor as a plug-in! I'll be patient for v4.0.2.

Loaded the VST version of Reaktor v4.1.2 as an insert effect in Live 4.0.1 using a Powerbook G4 1Ghz 256MB RAM (OS X v 10.3.5). No problems, no crashes... opens and runs fine. The AU version DEFINITELY won't open.

Also had the problem, that Reaktor doesn't open, with some Reaktor PlugIns inside (Live/Reaktor asked me for some sample-paths, perhaps this is the reason ?).
But I was able to open my live song again, as I changed the path of the reaktor files, I used. Maid a new folder an put the used reaktor files inside there. Puhhh ...

definitely helped me to fix the problems with the sample paths of my reaktor instruments. No Live opens ... with several reaktor instruuments ...
