(Basic) Arpeggiator Help Needed

Hello

I need some really simple help to solve a problem which I just can't figure out and it's starting to drive me mad now!

The problem I have is with the Arpeggiator and it seemingly not doing what I want it to do. On a really simple level, when I load up a synth into a midi track, add the Arp and press on the keyboard I simply get a single note repeating it. The note doesn't go up in scale, just the same repeating note. Changing the step value give more notes but not what I would expect.

For example, with the default settings (style = up, rate = 1/8, gate 50%, distance = +12st) if I change Steps I get the following...

Steps: 0 = note1, note1, note1, note1, note1, note1 etc
Steps: 1 = note1, note2, note1, note2, note1, note2 etc
Steps: 2 = note1, note2, note3, note1, note2, note3 etc

Is this correct? I ask as when I watch this tutorial video when he does the same thing with a Step set to zero he gets an arpeggio sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rT4dIjWuKv4 (0:55 secs in)

In that video is what I would expect to happen - a set of notes rising in value. When he changes the style to UpDown he gets patterns going up and then down. When I set it I get the same as above - not up then down. This is the same for all the styles - they don't seem to do the patterns they say they would.

It's driving me mad - am I doing something wrong or is something wrong with my copy of Live?

Any help would really be appreciated! :)

Cheers!

Dom

play a chord, not a note.
