OT: Let's hate on inept UPS delivery guys

Usually, my experience with UPS is smooth. However, today was a different story.

So my roommate steps into the apartment and gives me a little UPS note saying they missed me. Now, at this point, just by seeing the note I am way more than pissed, because I was expecting this package today, and had been making a big effort to not make too much of a ruckus so that i could hear the intercom bell ring. Bell never rang. Obviously the guy just wrote up the note and stuck it on the door without even bothering to ring. Roommate says he thinks the truck is still out there, and I should try and catch them before they leave.

"sweet!" I think, as I run down the stairs, exit, see the truck still parked, then walk over with my slip to get my package from the guy.

"no can do" he says.

"Wtf are you talking about? you just stuck this note over there without even ringing the bell. Least you could do is reach in and give me a little box with my name on it. Takes you 30 seconds"

"no can do. I'm on my lunch break right now. See?" as he shakes an EMPTY Subway drink cup (just some ice in it) at me. "Lunch break ends at 3:40. I'll deliver your package then."

No food in sight. He's already done. But I reluctantly decide to respect the lunch break thing. "Right" I say with a strong hint of sarcasm in my voice.

I look at my watch. Dude is going to use this lunch break excuse for the next 15 minutes before the clock strikes 3:40. Even though I thought of just hanging around while the guy got out of his "lunch break", I thought it would be a bit too much. So I decide to come back in.

"When your lunch break is done, can you please deliver my package?"

"Sure" he says.

Alright I come in. As soon as I am walking up my stairs I hear a truck speeding off. I run back down, look out the door and what do I see? The UPS truck in the distance. Fucking guy just waited for me to turn around and drove off.

Truck was too far already to see any plates or anything. Fucking prick. Now I have to wait until monday to get my new phone.

That's all. Needed to vent.

Is like a horror story for those, like myself who have their APC in transit Via UPS!

8O

I've always had issues with UPS, they take the maximum amount of time to deliver crap, they always leave stuff when they are not supposed to.

I've also had them pull the ninja trick, no knock & a slip placed silently on the door.

Obviously there is probably an issue with the way their management tacks progress.

Funny thing is, I've never had a problem with USPS.

you can still pin down the driver and file a complaint,
as you are on a specific route.
contact your local ups office.

I put in a call for redelivery. The lady who attended my call was nice. She said there's never a guarantee they'll do it but she made the request. If all goes well, I'll get a call within the hour.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but IF indeed it does happen, (i'm hoping it does) I will enjoy it. The guy will be pissed from having to drive around again and I will smugly say "should've delivered it before. Would've saved you a second trip."

PLEASE... PRETTY PLEASE... baby jesus, make it happen.

had the same shit happen here a couple of times. i prefer fedex... you could always find out where the distribution center is, and pick up your package there, although new york is kinda big... i've done that before, popped up at the ups distribution center (it's about a 10 minute drive for me) around 10:00 pm, and got my shit. fuck those mother fuckers. fedex is always on time or early, and they always knock.

besides, their uniforms are ugggllleee, look like a bunch of turd burglars.

once I called, got the truck number and waited half an hour outside it. eventually the guy stumbled out the back after waking up from a nap. but he did give me the package.

you can't really assault the guy with eggs or flatten his tires or do fun shit like that, but instead of calling about to complain about the package call to complain about
- he was drinking beer at lunch
- he was smoking weed
- he picked up a prostitute and your children and wife are horrified
- he hit a parked car and drove off
etc.

have fun, Happy Friday!

Definitely report him.
That's the worst story I've ever heard, sans the throwing of packages stories/videos.

edit: Ah I see you called...

NYC + NJ Metro area UPS is just plain awful. It's more of a black hole than anything else.

If it truly were a ninja trick, it would have been placed on your pillow while you slept, or pinned to the chest of your room mate
who you find with his/her throat slit because they had come across the ninja trying to leave the note on your pillow while you slept.

When i was living down on 3rd ave in Brooklyn i once had a parcel addressed to me delivered to an empty apartment building
that i think might have been being used as a crack house or, at least, a squat. One of the "tenants" signed for it, then brought it over to my place on the next block. The address was clear as day!!!

i've made it a point to build a good relationship w/ my ups guy.. i always offer him a drink or something.. he's been very nice and never had any complaints.. i guess it helps that he plays the guitar and knows what it's like to be waiting for new musical toys.
but yeah, find out what union he is a part of and contact their local office.. drivers have their own union.. if you contact his supervisor which won't be union, it won't do shit cuz he can't do shit..

that's lame.

our regular UPS guys have been pretty cool. although we use FedEx for most of our own business.

I guess since we deal with the same drivers nearly every day, it's harder for them to be jerks. (I'm talking about at work, obviously) If you're spending 5 figures yearly on shipping, it helps too... Our FedEx rep sent me a set of fuzzy blocks when we had our kid. (via next-day service, haha) - and of course she calls to see if everything is going OK.

money makes the world go round

I can only imagine how much ass they would kiss if you were a large company! though at a certain size you might swing back the other way, because it would become so impersonal

it's especially infuriating when the drivers don't even do a drive by or leave a card, and use their little remote logger to say they've attempted delivery and left a card...
