Could anyone help out?

Hi

I've done an image restore of my PC and in the process of reinstalling all my programs from scratch. I have hardly started and have already encountered a problem. I installed Ableton 6.0.11 then when trying to run it I get an error message saying:

Microsoft VisualC++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

....Program Files\Ableton\Live 6.0.11\Program\Live 6.0.11.exe

This program has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Seeing it's the weekend, I might have to wait till Monday at the earliest to get a clue to what is happening. So I thought I'd try the forum before contacting support.

Has anyone got a clue about this please? I have done a Google search and all I find is stuff related to browsers. I doubt this is the problem in my case as I have had everything up and running before.

I use XP SP2. The PC in question is not and never will be connected to internet so I haven't updated to SP3 and not sure if I need to.

I think you're missing C++ libraries which you can install from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

If that doesn't work you should be able somehow to deactivate the service but you have to google this. (Deactivating microsoft C++ runtime library or something like it)

I'm sorry friend, I checked back a few times Saturday and saw no reply. The information supplied by spkey may or may not fix the issue. I actually "cured" mine of this (with several different software programs)and it SEEMED to happen more or less "out of the blue".

I am genuinely curious as to whether our native illegal immigrant friend's recommendation will work.

It seems too logical and specific not to.

There are a few straight up seemingly illogical questions that concern me however. Like: If your computer is only updated to XP SP2, or in my case XP SP3, why would programs that were installed well prior to 2008 all of a sudden develop this error when in reality the runtime program itself is supposed to facilitate the C++ display functionality with respect to new programs developed and written with that program feature? I mean, weren't these programs written well prior to this C++ BS? For instance, Live 6 started doing this out of blue, WHY, when it hadn't been updated for several years?

I don't get it. I had thought, or better put suspected, that this error was the result of some new downloaded update to SP3 or Window's security, now that I know via your post that you don't have SP3, and you computer is not even connected to the internet, my mind is really boggled. So please, feedback and let me know how you did with spkey's recommendation.

I haven't tried spkey's suggestion yet, though it seems very feasible. I'll contact Ableton support and see what they say before trying it.

Technically speaking, I never actually ran 6.0.11 before only 6.0.10. Strangely, I could install and run version 6.0.10 without any hassles. I haven't installed 6.0.11 over the top yet, but installing 6.0.11 alone gives me the error message.

Unfortunately my desktop PC has been temperamental ever since I've had it. Every now and then a new anomaly crops up for no logical reason. It really pisses me off but I spent a lot of money on it and so put up with it.

By the way, thanks for the responses so far.
