Hi. I'm upgrading to a 17' Mac Book Pro. Solid state drive or 7200? Solid state has no moving parts. Supposed to be faster and more reliable...Any thoughts?
Thanks as always,
Ron

i would definitely try out ssd. people say write speeds are supposed to be lower but i personally don't write to disk that much.

I heard that they are fast and reliable, but how do they work with external hardrives, i mean im using ableton and all my data is in my external lacie rugged harddrive, if i pick the solid state it will work fine with the external , no problem that the external is 5400rpm??

Internal = much faster

5400 external = lame

I know you said 17" so this does not apply to the 17" but just a FYI. The new MBP 13" and 15" seem to have slower STA interfaces for SSD at the moment.

You may want to note that youll only get about half the potential life out of a SSD at the moment, compared to a spinning disk drive. They have a finite read/write count, which you might use up in 3 years of reasonably heavy use. I dont think its a big problem, If I get 3 years use out of any hard drive, I think that Im ahead!
