Yeah, pretty much agree with your opinions - apart from Pendulum...those guys have one good tune and they will always mop up a festival crowd, but that super-sequenced high energy rock gets old really quickly away from its natural habitat.

got lots of pals there saying its a cracker this year... and i have to say from my armchair with my mac on my lap its been quite entertaining..

have enjoyed Friendly Fires, Metronomy, Florence and the Machine (who ended her set with a version of Candy Staton's 'you've got the love with, which was corking!)..

interesting how many bands are quite happily a mush of Dance/Electronica and Guitars, Indie-ness

Yup I'd agree with that. Really got the crowd buzzin though.

Not even paid attention to it... I've eyes only for Bestival this year!

OK, a Blur rant is coming...

Caught bits of the Glasto coverage here and there. The likes of Jo Whiley banging on about how everything was 'an event' and 'amazing' really grates. I am sure some performances were good, and if you are at the thing live then you could get caught up in the moment. But, y'know, not EVERYTHING is going to be some life-affirming, life-changing moment.

The most gushing was reserved for Blur, and I did indeed see some of their set, but what struck me most was that Blur had banned the BBC from broadcasting some of their set. This was explained as "wanting to reserve something for their fans on tour". Rightly or wrongly I interpret it as 'milking' the tour, and it meant the only Blur song I genuinely like wasn't shown ('Popscene').

What struck me about Blur is just how poor the majority of thier songs are. Really badly put together; really repetitive; and lyrics that have not stood the test of time. Urgh... Although credit where its due, 'Tender' was quite moving and a big sing-along, and I am sure that was a great moment if you were actually there.

Predictably, the media people are saying that Blur were the best Glasto headliner for agee: i.e. better than Jay-Z last year. This is missing so many points about why Jay-Z's set was important its untrue. The fact that Jay-Z was better musically being the most minor one!

I admit my view is slightly biased in that I loathe Blur; although I am not really a Jay-Z fan either

Blur seemed to be playing through their set at 90 miles an hour, with much more of a punk sensibility than either the album versions or previous live sets. I found it a bit annoying. They *have* got good tunes, but they seemed to be just blasting through them, ticking them off the "greatest hits" list. Disappointing.

Ting Tings were brilliant though. I have to admire the performance aspects of getting such a big sound with just two members of the band.

Passion Pit were a revelation. Cool sounds, but I couldn't get past the falsetto of the lead singer - began to grate after a while.

I was really impressed with the set from Madness. YES, they've been doing this kind of greatest hits set for AGES, but they continue to churn out professional, tight, crowd pleasing tunes that everyone can get down to. Great stuff.
