How do you explain to people what kind of music you make?

Except in music forums, I rarely, if ever, talk about my music anymore, unless I actually have a specific piece I'd like someone specific to hear. I found when I was younger that I was always attempting to explain myself, but it was an attempt to make what I was doing, or not doing, seem more than what it actually was. Now I couldn't care less what it is or how it might potentially be perceived.

Yes, even most of my family members don't really consider me a "musician," even though I've spent an awfully large percentage of my spare time doing it over the past 15 years or better. In fact, none of them other than my parents ever heard the album I spent 3 years working on back around 2000, because just being quiet is probably easier than explaining the porn lesbians making out on the cover. Same story with my wife's family. It gets to where you feel like you have to be a secret musician.

Or maybe I'm just a big puss.

this is the most ridiculous thread i read since i have the internet.
the second ridiculous fact is is that i have as well a couple of problems telling people that i make music.
most people imagine computer music as a mindless one touch button-drug-sex repetition mixed with cheer voices and
absolutley static.
there is something seriously thruth about it.
for me electronic music is mostly shit nowadays.
i've got allot of suffering when is see in the tv all this bitches making a very cheap performance without mind and any idea of producing.

producing isn't a question of knowledge.it is a question of the familie you come from and therefore you will find a "connection".
of course you have to fuck before you'll get the job.

it's in your mind.

money is rare but for some people there is even much more money than before.
you want to work for this?
go and sell your personality but don't tell me later on,how fucked you will feel.

even if you're not a great producer.all the work and effort you do is healthy for your mind and body.
if people answer with those kind of mentioned reactions,it only shows how resigned they are.
they believe in "fuck for your job".
why so many people resigned after loosing their jobs?
they never learned to occupy with something with love.
they only did it for money for the whole live.
now we have the economic crisis.
and you know which kind of people suffer now mostly?
exactly those kind of people,who pissing on you before because you do something "there is no money in that" kill themself and die off a slowly uncreative death.

Well,

I usually tell my wife's friends(I don't have any friends), the only people that remotely care I make "crazy music." When they ask "crazy music?" I just put my hand to my mouth like I'm holding a mic, stick my tounge out and scream. I say, "it's kind of like that."

It would be way to much work to tell them that I make speed thrash metal but with only drum machines and synths and a little hint of traditional Japanese Minyou.

They don't want to listen to it so I keep it simple. It's crazy, stop asking.
