Wierd Crashes Since Version 8. F12=WORK. SHIFT-TAB=CRASH.

I'm getting a little weirdness since version 8, with regard to "Serious Program Error" and the occasional "Unhandled Exception 0x00005 at address 0x0000000" type messages and shut downs.

It always happens when I'm editing MIDI and I press SHIFT+TAB to go back to the arrangement view. (Usually pressing SHIFT+TAB will take you right back into editing MIDI). It usually happens when I have a plug-in open at the same time.

Now the work around is to press F12. Never crashes. But over the years, I've just got used to pressing SHIFT TAB since I can switch views like that with my left hand while my right (holding my Tablet pen) does all the editing. I'm trying to just F12, but occasionally I forget and it's that occasional time when it usually decides to bomb.

Has anyone ANY idea why SHIFT+TAB would cause a crash (maybe some kind of external assignment in XP, although I can't think of any) or something else while F12 would function perfectly? Is there any way I can disable SHIFT+TAB to prevent me using this method of switching views etc. etc.

Any help would be SO appreciated, I'm loosing too much work at the moment due to this slip. It's driving me crazy. I do save my projects quite regularly, but apart from Pressing Ctrl+S every time I make a change AND always remembering to use F12, I don't know what else I can do. I just make something "new" I like in my project and BOOM... ARG!!! Recover... NOT THERE!!! ARGGG!! DAMN! (You know how it goes!).

What version of 8 do you have? I think the current rev is 8.0.4
Could it be the plug in? I know it probably worked *before* but maybe its not gel-ing with Live 8.

Version 8.0.4.
No, unfortunately it does it with any plug-in.
I've manage to find the crash logs though if anyone can shed any light from these.

Cheers anyway H20nly.

ANYONE PLEASE
=============

If someone has a brief moment, would they please mind trying this out to see if they get a crash.
It would be very much appreciated if someone else could in some way duplicate this.

It's pretty straight forward and should only take a few minutes at the most.
(It actually crashes whether or not you have any plugins open).

1) It MAY make a difference if you please set your MIDI editing page to "full page display". In other words, drag the "split view" line right up until your editing MIDI on a full view and displaying the session view on a full view when you switch between them.

2) I also run Ableton F11 full screen.

So:-

3) Double click on an empty MIDI slot to create an empty MIDI clip. (You should now be editing MIDI in full page view).

Then do the following as fast as possible in quick succession to try and generate an error.

4) Press SHIFT-TAB (should bring you back to the session view) - keep your fingers over the SHIFT-TAB.
5) Now double click again on the MIDI clip you just created in Step 3 to take you back into the MIDI editor view).
4) Go back to step 5 and keep repeating the double click on MIDI clip and pressing SHIFT-TAB as quickly as possible.

You may need to do it about 20 or 30 times. But (for me at least) a one off occasion should generate a serious error shut down.
