Electro House Synth Sound?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to ableton and just recently purchased live 8 (im waiting for my APC 40 to ship...apparently theyre backordered). Anyway, I'm really into electro house and I love the synth tones and sounds that MSTRKRFT and the Bloody Beetroots get. Ive been messing around with Live's instruments as well as some various VSTs I have downloaded from the internet, but I still feel like I'm in the dark about how to get the sound I want. I was reading on MSTRKRFTs forums about high passes and low passes, envelope filters, and other things like that. I don't really know what all that means yet, so I was wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks/good website tutorials for a beginner to help them attain that dirty electro house synth sound, I would really appreciate it!

thanks!

Learning about "high passes and low passes, envelope filters, and other things like that." is pretty much essential I'm afraid. It's well worth it to set your goals back a bit and learn some theory before going straight for it, you may just end up frustrated and dissilusioned otherwise.

Sorry to not give you a direct answer, give search a try... there are plenty of posts like this.

thanks for the response. yea thats what ive been doing a lot on youtube and various message boards. ive been playing guitar for about 9 years but ableton is a completely different experience from that. i guess once i learn more of the theory itll become more clear

hmm it doesnt care what synths your are using. every synth is similar at the basics. just try and error...
or read the ableton live MANUAL. and make the courses they are explaining everything about standart synths...

easy to learn hard to master ;)
