I need to buy an LP player...not for DJ purpose....just to listen at home.
I just want to start listening a lot of old records i have without use.

Please recommend a good product for me to buy.....i figured with so many Dj's here...would be a good place to get a recommendation.

GREAT question. I guess it comes down to your price range and whether you really want anything more than just a decent record player.

There are a number of 200.00 plastic players (including cartridge) like Nu Mark, Audio Technica or Techniques with an Audio Technica or Shure cartridge that will do the trick, but if you can bump that to 350.00 - 500.00, you can pick up a nice used or new entry level table. Better to go used if you can find a nice one. You really can't get a decent listening turntable for under a grand new. Craigslist and your local flea markets and audiophile shops are the best hook up there when it comes to quality used stuff. Rega makes a really decent product for the money and so does Music Hall. I highly recommend staying away from plastic chassis for the purpose of noise transferal. You should also get a phono pre amp if at all possible. They are cheap and make a HUGE difference.

I got a Stanton T.60 for the same reasons you listed - new about 150 bucks. I use it for a sample every now and then too. I put a Technics headshell on it that I had laying around.

The doc is right about needing a pre-amp though... you can get one of those cheap too. You don't need anything top of the line for playback only type purposes. Then again you may already have one in your current setup...

You don't need a 1200 to just play records unless you also wanna use it for a sit n spin. Its all in the needle.

If you have a mixer so you can get the level up high enough you can use the freeware RIAA plug-in for playback then you don't need a phono preamp

It seems like the pro-ject III (on red..hehehe)...would be a fantastic option.
I saw really good opinions for the phono pre "bellaris" 230 bucks on ebay.

So 350 + 230= 580.

I think i'm gonna wait until i have that money.....cause i had gone for the cheap stuff before and i regreted it big time.
(i mean...my first interface was an m-audio fw400....the second a project mix i/o/////then i learned the lesson and got a motu).

Anyway...cheap stuff...most of the time...is cheap...cause it sounds poorly.

asking a DJ about a turntable to listen to is probably the worst thing you could do.

that's like asking an audiophile which cables to use

Yeah i know!!!
But after all....good cables are good cables!!!

Good turntables are good turntables

And i guess i am an audiophile...that's why i would rather pay the price difference....than be bitchin for months and months....getting constant toughts of smashin gear against the wall!!!

does your mixer have a "phono in"? if not, you might use your home stereo, if you have one, or get a small mixer

I'd also vote for the technics SL1210, yes it's a DJ turntable, but it's very sturdy and has a direct drive, should last a lifetime, there are lots of different needles and they can be found used for not so expensive (got one for 220€, used) - o.k., I'm old school (also, these turntables are faster than the belt driven ones, I hate to wait for the turntable to speed up)
