Thinking about intergrating a mac mini to my home studio.
Any pros/cons (or link) and feeedback from user's utilizing a mini in their set up?

the mac mini sports a 5400(rpm) harddrive can I replace that with a 7200 rpm drive from NewEgg.com??

yes, theres quite a few tutorials with pictures on how to do so online. You do, however, void the warranty and any Apple Care you may have purchased with the product.

Wouldn't the heat from a 10,000rpm drive be dangerous to a mac mini? I burnt out the hard drive in my white macbook from leaving it on while closed (using Insomniax) and that was only a 5400rpm. Can't imagine what damage a 10000 would do.

I think drive speed is largely hype and a fire hazzard.

Even women will agree that size is more important than speed.

If you're not worried about portability, it's much less hassle and much more flexible to run the Mini from an external hard drive. You get the benefits of the faster disk RPM with none of the heating issues, and your warranty stays intact. You usually gain extra USB & firewire sockets and the footprint need not be greater if you get one of those stackable jobs:

I've used this arrangement for 3-years now and I've only recently run into problems because Live 8 is too much for my aging non-Intel processor and measly 1GB RAM. The newer Minis should stroll through everything fine.

i think the best disk option for a mini is SSD!

light/fast/silent/coolfor temp ;p

a small ssd for the operating system is enough ..
and then you can have an external 1-2 TB for your data
