According to Tabnak, Mohsen Namjoo an Iranian artist and folk singer was sentenced to 5 years in prison for singing lyrics of the Koran in a modern popular style of Music.

Mohsen Namjoo is very popular in Iran and has made a few concerts around the world including in North American cities.

This is further evidence of the government’s ongoing effort to clamp down on artists and musicians.

We should have done the same to Cliff Richard for the Millenium Prayer.

I guess it's a pretty serious offense to muck around with Islam holy texts in that manner. In college, I took a class on the history of the middle east. For one of our group projects, we remixed a prayer call into a hip hop song and made a music video of us praying to go with it. Got an A on the project, but a Muslim girl in the class explained that it would be very bad fucking news if the wrong people were in the classroom when we played the video!

Honestly if people want to believe in a religion then fine keep it to yourself and don't brainwash your kids either.
Better yet, make up your own religion (all the other religions where originally made up by someone) stop being lazy and worshiping someone Else's imaginary friend!

+1. I have been reading about the histories and evolution of Islam and Judaism, and am quite impressed at the moral codes they achieved in their times.

Even google news, via the AFP, are reporting that he ridiculed the Koran, and insulted it's sanctities. Check the guy's bio and you find out he's a satirist. Smooth move, poindexter.

He's in Vienna, he was sentenced in absentia.
