What's the best way to transfer an ableton live project (session) from an old mac to a new intel mac? I'm using live 5.0.1 on the old one and live 5.2.2. on the new. I have 500 gig external harddrive that i was planning on using to make the switch but i don't know whether or not to do the whole 'save as self contained' thing onto the hard drive or just try to copy and past the directories onto the hard drive. When you do 'save as self contained' does live recognize all the files?...for instance like samples in impulse per say...I know it saves all the audio but i wasn't sure about the midi stuff like impulse tracks. any tips or tricks on this would be much appreciated, i'm just looking for the best way that would be the most efficient and least amount of hassle. I'm trying to continue working on this track on the new intel macbook (way better than 512 mb ram, knawhatimsayin?) thanks in advance guys. lata.

save it as a self contained project.

it does just what you'd expect it to do....

save it, as a self-contained project.

(with all samples etc...)

Have you considered using Migration Assistant to move from the old mac to the new? If you're going to go old internal drive -> new internal drive I would recommend doing that way. It'll move everything, your apps, emails, preferences, desktops, system setup etc etc.

I've updated my mac three times now doing that way and it's been perfect update each time. It's quite uncanny to see your whole world running on new hardware.
