Chopping beats without using beatslice?

I'm a big fan of using the 'slice to new midi track' option...But I really want to use a copy/paste method of taking chunks of a drum loop and re-ordering them. I've been tinkering with doing this in the arrangement view, but how do i then record that and put it in the session view as a clip?

Highlight the selection, right+click(windows) or ctrl+click(mac) and "consolidate clip"

Ah, that is a useful method that's new to me, thanks (it's early days for me. Sooo much fun though, my girlfriend is getting annoyed with my new ableton obsession).

However, I'm copy pasting while in arrangement mode. I'm copying and pasting the audio. I want to take a chunk of that and transfer it back to session view as a whole audio loop.

Left click on the consolidated clip and hold the mouse button down in arrangement, while holding down press tab to switch to session view, hey presto now drop the clip on a track in session view. Job done.

Aha. That's the trick. Thanks, jake.

Even though I figured that out a while ago that's still a perfect example of why the session and arrangement windows should have an option to "unsnap" them from the main interface so you can drag them onto a second monitor like you can in most audio/video software.
