I want to create a sampling initiative among owners that could help us ALL. Basically I like BPM's drums sounds, and thats all I want. The instruments are a sample of that comes with MachFive 2. NOW LISTEN UP: You can have MacFive 2 for the nearly the price of BPM. There is a $300 discounted price for owners of any other sampler (NNXT, Kontakt, EXS, etc)

What I want to do is share the load of resampling the drum kits into Live so that they will be independent of Motu BPM. That way we can use them in DrumRack or whatever you prefer for your drums. There are many ways to resample the sounds, but I have come up with a simple way: I open bpm its own track, then create an audio track. I then set the audio track's input to the BPM track (or you can send BPM's output to the audio track). Next I record-enable the audio track. Last, I go to the sample browser on BPM and simply scroll through each sample one at a time. When BPM previews each file, the audio track records it. When you get to the end of the list, you have successfully recorded an entire folder. That was easy. The hard part (but not initially mandatory) is to separate each recorded sample in to their own wave forms, which basically consists of splitting and exporting. Not a bad job when you only have to do a few folders, which is why I'm asking for cooperation. This will allow you to eventually get rid of BPM while still having the samples to work with.

I have placed a poll to see how many are interested in doing it. So once we have 10 interested participants, we will split the load and get to work.

When its all done, we can compress and upload our parts via megaupload.com and share them here. Sounds like a good plan?

Well if don't get help, I'll do it myself. And do bother asking for the samples then. I don't get paid for this.

You can't do that, read the license.

Listen, I can legally make my own song and resample it. I can also share my song with other BPM users. So I can make a song with just claps, another with just kicks and so on. Then I can share my song with other bpm users. My lawyer can back me all the way. But since BPM users on this forum don't want to help me make songs, then no one has to worry about the sharing part.

LOL. Sorry to disturb your great thread, poll and one man conversation.

Don't mean to be rude, but I'm trying to accomplish something here. Its ok if no one respoonds though because I can truly handle it myself. Just thought I'd share the load and benefits. I'm all about improving workflow while maintaining quality. If I have to strip down a product to do so, that what I do.

Try Decaf.

I must say BPM's drums are really good all around. I thought Maschine's drums were top, but no at all. Others say BPM is strictly for hiphop. Unfortunately it may seem that way if you're trapped into BPM's interface. I now use the drums independent of BPM and I must way its great all around, with the exception of missing some great cymbals, But I have enough of those anyway. Took all of BPMs samples and made drum racks in Live organized by type (hats, snaps, kicks, etc.) A powerful collection under 200MB, I even deleted my 18gb drum library (kept a backup of course).

how did u turn an 18 gb library into a 200 mb library? did you downgrade the sample rates? what makes BPM's drums better than Maschine's or Battery's? i think Maschine has the best selection of kits for any type of music you may want to produce. and with one instance of Maschine, you can mix and match kits and layer sounds however you choose.

you come off as being a little on edge with what you've said. not a bad guy, just uptight...

The libraries are often the most expensive part of the instrument. Kontakt, Battery 3, Linplugs RM 5, Motu BPM, etc....

While you can use the libraries in your tracks, for many instruments, it is against the License Agreement to Re-sample, and distribute the library.


Now, I don't know Motu's agrrement. I don't own Motu products.



Still, if you want to use the library in your music, perhaps buying the product is the best route. Otherwise, you sound like another step junky, hanging outside a downtown bar, with an idea thats a lot of work, little use.

FOR THE RECORD, I don't try to get off free with anything. I own both BPM and Maschine, which is why I offered to share with BPM users. I resampled the drums for my own use, which my lawyer has assured me I can do. And its well worth it... if those sounds came with Live, I'd never buy BPM or Maschine.

LIBRARY SHRINKAGE I also own Motu's MachFive2. When I bought BPM, I realized I was duped into having same exact instruments (though MachFive has way more). After thorough investigating, I realized that BPM's drums are the SMALLEST part of the library. The other 14.8 gigs are the instruments and audio loops, which I didn't bother to resample because I have them. I was only interested in the drums.

DRUMS: BPM vs MASCHINE Don't get me wrong, Maschine has great sounds. I love their claps, hats, snaps,and percussions are AMAZING!! In fact my entire drum library consists of BPM, Maschine, and BigFishAudio's Smokers Relight/Delight (and Live's Drum session. I abandoned everything else unless needed for old sessions. BPM has the best snares and kicks I've heard come from a sound bank. So to me its the best of both worlds, I need both in my studio.

INTERFACE Maschine is 'cool' at the most. I don't wanna use a DAW in a DAW, and I prefer to use Live8. So I increase productivity by creating Custom Drum racks, and importing Maschine's instruments into Live's Sampler, then add necessary effects to get close to the original preset's sound. Works great for me. BPM's interface is pretty interesting, but having MachFive and Ableton defeats the purpose of me tracking in that thing. Once again Drum Racks does it for me with my MPD32. BPM's editing requires too many steps.

CONCLUSION I like simplicity with the option of getting complex. Live provides that for me, and I don't want other companies shoving their software in my face just to get some good sounds. Maybe only NY guys are pissed off by that, and still few of us do something about it. Some people endure the misery. For now BPM and Maschine are in under my bed. I'll probably keep them for my kids when I have some.
