Drum Rack and Sampler Release Times?

Post by JaCk HoRNer » Fri Jul 24, 2009 6:25 am

Does anyone know how to set the Release Times to play the whole sample out in Drum Rack and Sampler?

The highest Release Time you can turn it to is 60secs, but the sample starts to fade out way before that is up.

I'm trying to chop a sample up in Drum Rack using the Choke Groups for the pads to cuts each other off. I'd like it to be like the MPC, where it plays the whole sample out until you hit the next pad, without the sample starting to fade.

Any help?

Thanks

You should be able to set the release time in Drum Rack and Sampler to infinite, not just 60 secs.

Are your samples really longer than 60 seconds? Check out launch modes & trigger vs. one shot, that might help. Or you could midi map clips to pads as a last resort. It's a tricky problem.

with the note length device you can add another 60 sec. (i think)

no need for the Note Length device. just set Sampler's loop mode to 'trigger' and set the Decay to 60sec. you'll have a full 60 seconds of held note without fading.

now put the release all the way up and the R.Slope at -100%, and you'll get 2 mins, though it will fade in the last 10 seconds or so.

That's cool for sampler, but i can live with the sampler decay and release times. I use sampler like i use my asr-10, for chopping the sampler up in zones and then playing it out how i want. i love the loop features in sampler, they work great to flip a sample very creative.

I'm trying to get drum rack to work like and mpc. i know ableton prob figured people would be using drum rack for just drums, so 60 secs of release time would be fine, but if you want to use it like an mpc and chop your samples up in it, they should have gave you an option for an infinite release time.

they should get on that, that would bring alot of mpc guys over to ableton.

i use and asr-10 midi'd up to an mpc in the studio. to me using drum rack and sampler is the same thing with way more flexibility. they need to get on this, seems it would be an easy fix for them.

Ableton are yo listening???

so you are saying that 2 minutes of full volume per sample is not enough for each pad...

?

sampler

drum racks

(the samplers are IN the drum rack...)

In drum rack you can't get it to play 2 mins of full volume for a sample.

The trick mentioned above was for sampler, not drum rack.

It should be an easy thing to do in drum rack. i don't know why ableton set the release and decay times to max out a 60 secs???

nevermind the fact that "drum rack" can't even play a sample by itself..

"drum rack" is irrelevant in terms of release time, it has to do with the instruments which are in the rack

I know there are samples in the drum rack.

all i am saying is there a way to get each one to play out without fading out?

in the mpc you can set the sample to mono and set the decay time to 0, and it will play all the way out without fading.

maybe in ableton 9 they will fix that problem. it will draw alot of mpc producers over to ableton, and it should be a simple fix for them to do.

you do realize that you can also just hold the note to make the sample play out entirely?

@JackHorner

Hey, did you ever find a workaround for this? I'm trying to figure out how to do the exact same thing. It didn't seem like anybody who replied to your post really understood what you were talking about... I've got Live 7 so I don't know if this has been addressed in Live 8 or not. Hope there's a solution...
