Its new monitor time
Any one have these monitors what are your thoughts?

that means nothing, though.

my partner just got a pair. pretty good for the price i guess.

go to craigslist and just look for some used HR Mackie's... if your set on mackies anyway...

I just got a pair, I like them, pretty crisp with decent bass. Better than the other ones I listened to in the shop!

Have them nearly a year now. So damn clear. Go for them

also.. everything i produce and master, sounds good on other sound systems. (except recently when i chanaged my "studio" about and put on the "+2dcb" boost on the low end as i thought i needed it cause they were so close to the walls. So the subs on then rendered track wernt as high as i thought they were. but that was my own fault)

So id say go for them.

if the monitors are placed near the wall - you wanna cut below 60 Hz by 2-4 dB, not boost.

and then take a SLOW sine sweep and listen to 'holes' you might encounter (it's not the 100% super duper accurate way of measuring, but it can help a lot, real 'holes' or boom-ish behaviour you can hear that way) btw logic's test oscillator comes in handy for that, you can sweep manually and see at which frequency you are at. otherwise take a slow recorded sine sweep and use a spectral analyzer to know at which frequency you are at.

it's a good 'budget home studio way' to be a bit more sure what's going on. actually this is one way of pro-measuring as well, only that you pick up the speaker with a mic and an analyzer, instead of only using your ears.

and believe me you will be surprised what you can hear that way... or not, if it is smooth and even... as it should be.


EDIT: i did it a while ago to perfect my setup and the whole positioning and we even have a Klark Teknik DN-6000 Analyzer at work but it is amazing what you can find out via ear this way. the analyzer only showed me absolute minor stuff afterwards.
